About me and my therapy practice
About Me
For me, the individual client is at the heart of everything I do as a therapist; my wish is to create a safe space, and work in a meaningful and mindful way with every client, in a way that best works for you.
I began my therapist journey after spending the majority of my teens feeling alone. After an enlightening theraputic journey, I finally felt both seen and understood by my therapist, and also able to see and understand myself. I wanted to help others experience this themselves; so I began an MA in Counselling and Psychotherapy, and I have been practicing as a therapist ever since - only becoming more and more passionate about what I do as time goes on!
Since practicing, I've seen what an isolating, overwhelming, and often lonely world we can live in, where more often than not people simply want to be seen, heard, validated, and accepted.I strive to do just that; making every client feel that, no matter what is going on for them, once they (virtually!) step into our joint space they can be however they are in that moment, and be seen, heard, and accepted. I often return to themes of being gentle with oneself, emotional acceptance, and self-worth. In an age where we are now told our emotions are valid, but rarely given the space where they feel valid, I champion the idea that not only are our emotions valid, but they also deserve to be explored, understood, and expressed.
How I work
As a predominately Psychodynamic therapist, I like to work in an organic, individual way with each client. I'll ask questions, offer reflections, and, as our work continues and we build our safe space together, I'll sometimes ask quite deep, probing questions, at a pace that feels right for you. Sometimes I may suggest exercises, either in the session or outside it - but again, I like working on an individual basis with each client, exploring what ways of working will best help you, help yourself. I also draw on person-centered, relational, and integrative approaches.
Practice description
My Practice
I work online, preferably via zoom, using a secure, private link. I can also offer telephone appointments.
My sessions run for 50 minutes, one a weekly or fortnightly basis, depending on your preference. Ideally, we will stick to the same time slot every week - however, I know this isn't always possible, so I am happy to be flexible with this if another way works better for you. One of many advantages of online work is the flexibility and accessibility - even if something comes up and you are unable to make a session, don't be afraid to reach out, as more often than not we can sort something out!
In our first session, we will discuss the length of our time together. I typically offer a 20-session chunk to start off with, especially when clients indicate a desire for long term work. However, again this is something that I can be flexible with. Throughout our time together, I'll schedule mini reviews, checking in with you and seeing how you're finding the process, your thoughts about the sessions, and how you're feeling regarding our scheduled sessions left together. One of my aims as a therapist is building up client autonomy, helping you feel like we are a team working on the same goal; your wellbeing. Therefore, I want us to feel like we are on the same page regarding our time together, how the sessions are going, and how you are feeling about the process.
My first session
First Steps
I offer an initial 30 minute consultation, which is free of charge. My aim for this consultation is to find out about you, a little bit about your background, and essentially, what you would like to gain from our time together - alongside some logistics such as availability and fees.
This also gives you a chance to get to know me a little, hearing how I work, and asking any questions you might have. For me, it is important that you feel like proceeding on your therapuetic journey alongside me feels like the best fit for you.
At the end of this consultation, we will discuss if you feel like you would like to proceed. If so, we will decide together on when our first session will be. After the consultation, I shall then email you within the next 2 days our client/therapist contract, bank details, any key dates that I know I will be unable to work, and our zoom link for our sessions.
First Session
In our first session, my aim is to begin building our relationship, focusing on how to create a safe, secure online space for you. We will discuss what has brought you to therapy, your thoughts, feelings, and potential concerns about the process, and explore what you would like to focus on during our time together. I will also answer any questions that may have arised from the client/therapist contract, and discuss a rough timeline for our sessions together.
After each session together, I will send an invoice with the total owed for that session. Our session fees will be agreed before we start, alongside discussing whether you would prefer to pay on a session-by-session basis, or for a chunk of sessions in advance.
