About me and my therapy practice
Hi, I'm Rachel, and I'm an Integrative Relational Therapist. I'm dedicated to making talking therapy as accessible as possible and I believe we all deserve the opportunity to talk openly and explore vulnerabilities in a safe, non-judgemental space.
I'm Integrative because I draw from knowledge and experience of different psychotherapeutic models and skills - and Relational because I strongly believe that the relationship that I help to build together with clients is one of the most important aspects of effective therapy.
Practice description
I work holistically with clients – looking at mind/body connection, family, friendships and other significant relationships, cultural heritage and diversity. I’m influenced by Eastern philosophy and can offer a Mindfulness-based approach if appropriate.
As a fulltime wheelchair user, I have gained personal insight into:
- Receiving a life-changing health diagnosis
- Living with disability
- Issues of 'otherness' and discrimination
- Long-term health conditions and stigmas associated with illness
- Facing and accepting the body's fallibility
I volunteer as a counsellor for NHS Cancer services and am a passionate advocate for equality, diversity and accessibility. I’m particularly interested in how different traumas are held in the body, and how we can learn to overcome challenges, work through transitions, and change long-held, sometimes damaging thoughts and patterns of behaviour. Through my work with cancer patients, I have gained experience of working with:
- Death anxiety/facing one's own death, or that of a loved one
- Adapting to treatments and life-altering operations
- Navigating the course of significant illness and treatment and the strain these can place on relationships
- Existential issues related to facing mortality or life-limiting illness.
I am a fully qualified (CPCAB PgDip Psychotherapeutic Counselling) Integrative Relational Therapist. I'm fully insured, a registered member of BACP and adhere to their Ethical Framework, as well as to UK GDPR confidentiality and data protection policy.
If we approach them mindfully, I believe our vulnerabilities can become our superpowers.
My first session
I offer a free 15-minute initial consultation, usually over the phone, or online, in which we can talk about the issues that are troubling you. There, we can decide if we feel we can work with one-another. Sometimes an initial chat will shine a light on issues that we might feel would be more suited to a specific way of working – in which case I can refer you on or signpost you to alternative practitioners.
If we decide to work together, our first session will include some information gathering for both of us and a brief assessment which will help us decide how and where to begin.
