About me and my therapy practice
Hi, I'm Rachel. I'm an Integrative Relational Therapist based in Brighton UK, working in-person, online and over the phone.
With lived experience of a physical disability, I have worked with cancer patients and their families, as well as a broad range of adults and young adults with differing abilities and chronic health conditions.
Although I have a disability, I'm not defined by it, and neither is my work. I can offer a non-judgemental and compassionate space to explore the toughest transitions and most challenging upsets that life throws at you.
Practice description
I work holistically with clients – looking at the mind/body connection, family, friendships and other significant relationships, cultural and ancestral heritage, beliefs and diversity.
I’m influenced by Eastern philosophy and can offer a Mindfulness-based approach if appropriate. I believe that if we approach them mindfully, our vulnerabilities can become our superpowers.
I'm also an artist, and can bring creativity, humour and playfulness into the work we do together, if and when it's needed.
I can offer support with the following issues:
- Facing a life-altering health diagnosis.
- Living with chronic illness/health condition and learning disabilities.
- Ageing and all it brings.
- Existential and Spiritual curiosity.
- Adapting to, and accepting the body's fallibility.
- Experience of discrimination and 'othering.'
- Depression & Anxiety.
- Suicidal thoughts.
- Death anxiety.
- Pre-bereavement.
- Grief and Loss.
I'm Integrative because I draw from knowledge and experience of different psychotherapeutic models and skills
I'm Relational because I truly believe that the relationship that I help to build with clients is one of the most important aspects of effective therapy
I'm a strong advocate for diversity and aim to make my practice as accessible and inclusive as possible.
I am a fully qualified (CPCAB PgDip Psychotherapeutic Counselling) Integrative Relational Therapist. I'm fully insured, a registered member of BACP and adhere to their Ethical Framework, as well as to UK GDPR confidentiality and data protection policy.
My first session
I offer a free 15-minute initial consultation, usually over the phone, or online, in which we can talk about the issues that are troubling you. There, we can decide if we feel we can work with one-another. Sometimes an initial chat will shine a light on issues that we might feel would be more suited to a specific way of working – in which case I can refer you on or signpost you to alternative practitioners.
If we decide to work together, our first session will include some information gathering for both of us and a brief assessment which will help us decide how and where to begin.
