About me and my therapy practice

Welcome! I am Esther Dietrichsen-Farley, Person-Centred Counsellor, Psychotherapist (MBACP, Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) and Founder of The Farley.

Start to feel human again. Reconnect with yourself.

Counselling and Psychotherapy for Burnt Out, Stressed, and Emotionally Exhausted Individuals, Professionals & Founders.

I created The Farley for people (over the age of 18) who are experiencing stress and burnout as a result of:

  • A demanding, high-pressure job and career
  • The relentless pursuit of success and high stakes associated with entrepreneurial ventures
  • Intense workload, tight deadlines, and pressure to excel.
  • Unresolved emotions or trauma
  • Living an inauthentic life

Some of the symptoms of burnout include overwhelming exhaustion (both emotional and physical), cynicism, isolation, anger and detachment.

The Farley is a private, serene sanctuary tucked away in a green corner where you are free to explore the impact of chronic / acute stress and burnout on your emotional, cognitive and physical well-being. Alternatively, you can do so from the comfort of your own home (via online sessions) or at a confidential in-person meeting space convenient to you (such as your office via tailored sessions).

Crucially, we make the profoundly necessary space to delve into your entire experience. Many of the clients I work with also experience anxiety, depression, relationship strain, substance abuse, belonging uncertainty, struggle with perfectionism and feelings of low self worth. Prior experiences of trauma may heighten emotional exhaustion too.

The Farley’s safe and confidential talking therapy service supports you in uncovering the underlying influences that shape your emotions, behaviours, and beliefs. This can help identify and shift limiting patterns or perspectives that may be causing distress.

I look forward to hearing from you!

Practice description

What to expect:

At its core, burnout represents a depletion of mental resources stemming from chronic, unrelenting stress. And our brains show real, measurable changes during this state of severe burnout: the amygdala (the fear center) becomes hyperactivated while regions like the prefrontal cortex (involved in cognitive control and decision making) become dysregulated and underactivated.

In essence, burnout reflects an excessive firing of the brain's stress response system without the higher reasoning areas acting as a healthy counterbalance.

The Person-Centred approach involves in-depth self-exploration of your thoughts, feelings and emotions as they unfold to develop greater self-awareness and understanding of your inner experiences. This process encourages and expands psychological flexibility so that you are better equipped to respond to emotional pain and stressful circumstances, it allows you to cultivate self-compassion, modify unhealthy coping behaviours, and re-shape your identity in a way that serves you.
