About me and my therapy practice
I believe that everyone could benefit from counselling at some point in their life. We all get stuck from time to time and having someone who has no preconceived ideas about you and offers a truly non-judgement place to sort through your thoughts and feelings can be life-changing. As an American, who has lived in the UK for over 20 years, I have witnessed attitudes of seeking out counselling change for the better. There seems to be less of a stigma around mental health in general and it's exciting to be a part of this.
Practice description
I am an integrative counsellor who uses different methods and modalities based on the needs of the individual client. Everything I bring into sessions is underpinned by the Person-Centred approach where the relationship between counsellor and client is of the utmost importance. This therapeutic relationship is the groundwork for creating a safe space to talk about difficult subjects. I believe the client to be the expert in their own life and I work with the client to find tools that work for them.
I work with a wide range of mental health issues. Much of my experience has focused on trauma, in particular, domestic abuse and sexual violence. I work with men, women, LGBTQ+ and young people aged 13 and above.
I also have a keen interest in the effects of cults and/or extreme religious practices. I offer help with learning to listen to your own voice again and work through potential traumas that occurred while active in one of these environments.
My first session
I offer a free 20-minute phone or online consultation. I will ask you a little about what brought you to counselling to make sure I'm a suitable choice and have the availability you need. This is also an opportunity for you to get a feel for me and see if this could potentially be a beneficial partnership. Sometimes we book our first session at the end of the consultation and sometimes the client wants to think it over. Either way is acceptable.
