About me and my therapy practice
I have been working as a Counsellor and Psychotherapist for the last 23 years. I have worked across the NHS, Voluntary and the private sector. I am an accredited member of the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) and a member of my graduate body; the Foundation for Psychotherapy and Counselling (FPC). I am also a registered member of the BACP.
I started my work as a psychotherapist with university students and young adults suffering from early trauma. I worked with these clients on a long-term basis ranging from several months to many years. Subsequent to my work in this area, I have gained extensive knowledge and experience of working with employees of all ages suffering from work-related stress and/or issues in their personal lives. I work with clients both in the UK and globally across various sectors and levels of various businesses. I offer short term and long- term therapy; Short term therapy involves focusing on one issue or concern, whilst longer-term therapy enables a client to look at a variety of issues.
Clients often get referred or come to see me when they are feeling down or suffering from a period of distress in their lives. They may have personal problems, be suffering in a relationship, career or family life. Alternatively, they may have experienced painful life events or feel something is missing in their lives. It may be difficult for them to find somebody to confide in or they may feel misunderstood by others.
My approach is based on the understanding that difficult experiences in the past can continue to affect the way you feel and behave in the present. For example, if you live in fear that your manager will be critical of you this might reveal a pattern of difficulty in relationships, particularly with those in a position of authority. Perhaps this stems from growing up within a highly critical environment during your early stages of development.
