About me and my therapy practice
Hello, my name’s Tim. I am an integrative, relational counsellor based in South East London. I mainly practice in person from my calm, quiet, private garden space, surrounded by trees and nature, in between Hither Green and Catford. I also offer sessions online via Zoom.
I gained my Diploma in Integrative Counselling (Level 7) from The Minster Centre, a leading integrative psychotherapy and counselling training institution. I am currently finishing my MA/Advanced Diploma in Integrative Psychotherapy and Counselling at The Minster Centre.
Being integrative means I draw from a range of different approaches and traditions, to assist with your unique needs as my client. It is my view that no single approach holds the ‘key’ to all problems, and it helps to have multiple perspectives to address what might be bothering you.
I draw from psychodynamic/psychoanalytic, body psychotherapy/somatic psychology, trauma-informed, humanistic and existential approaches. I adopt a holistic approach that looks at the whole person in context, and works with all of the different layers and aspects of your experience.
My approach is also relational. This means I aim to create a trusting, authentic and collaborative relationship together, to help you find ways to reach your desired goals. Therapy is not a ‘one size fits all’ process. I am open to exploring how we work together to meet your unique needs as a client. I understand that you know your experience best, but that working through problems in connection with someone else is often the first step towards healing, change and growth.
Before becoming a therapist, I worked as a musician for many years, including touring in the UK and Europe. I am always keen on exploring and working with artistic and creative issues in my practice. I also worked in disability and mental health support in various universities and in home care for individuals with brain injuries and neurological conditions.
Practice description
You might be seeking therapy for all kinds of different reasons. You may not have a clear sense of what’s wrong, but feel that things could be different in your life, and that you want some support to try to make some changes.
Whatever is troubling you right now, I provide a confidential, non-judgmental and supportive space where you will be properly listened to, and where you can speak openly about things that may feel uncomfortable or distressing. We can work together to explore and more fully understand your situation, and collaborate to find ways to help you move towards feeling more free, creative, joyful and whole.
I operate within a social justice framework and am a diversity inclusive therapist. I welcome all clients to my practice. I see therapy as a process that can contribute to positive social change, to create a more inclusive, equal and humane society. Our sessions will provide a space to openly explore and reflect on all aspects or ‘intersections’ of your identity, such as race, sex, gender, sexual orientation, disability, age, and religion and spirituality.
My first session
Introductory Call:
If you get in touch via email, we will arrange a time for a free 15 minute introductory chat, normally via Zoom. This will be an opportunity to briefly discuss what brings you to therapy, for you to ask any questions about me and my practice, and for us to discuss timings for an initial session.
Initial Session:
If possible, we will meet in person for the initial session, to get a sense of what working together might be like. We will discuss in more depth what has brought you to therapy, what you are wanting to get out of the sessions and how I might help. This is also an opportunity for you to ask me any questions you might have.
This session will be charged at the usual rate (£75). There is no obligation to continue working together, if you don’t think the fit is right.
If at the end of the initial session you decide you want to work together, then we will agree a regular time slot. If you are wanting shorter term work, this is something we can explore. If you anticipate that paying the fee will be problematic, we can discuss possible options.
