About me and my therapy practice

Hello and welcome to Korora Counselling. My name is Alex, I am a qualified integrated counsellor and a registered member of the BACP (British Association of Counselling Psychotherapy).

We all have times in life when things can feel challenging and overwhelming, when we might feel anxious or low. For example, this might relate to issues at work, relationships, family dynamics or ill health and bereavement. Or perhaps dealing with the many forms of neurodiversity, for instance dyslexia, of which I have both personal and professional experience. It can be helpful at times like these to take support from those we are close to, but it can also be helpful to talk to someone outside our immediate support to help us get a fresh perspective on what is going on and how we might begin to address things. This is where counselling can help.

I am an integrated counsellor, and my core model is person centred. For me counselling is, to put it plainly, a form of talk therapy. As a counsellor I will be warm, responsive, and non-judgmental to help form a counselling relationship with you. This relationship is important for you to feel comfortable enough to speak to me openly and for us to build mutual trust.

In forming a counselling relationship with me we both have our part to play, however, you will always be the most important person in this relationship. I will always show a genuine interest in you as a unique person in your own right.

Practice description

I am a registered member of the BACP and bound to work to their ethical framework.

You don’t have to know all the theory to start or complete your counselling journey but if you are interested, my approach is grounded in the idea that people are inherently motivated towards positive psychological functioning. It is a non-directive form of talk therapy where you act as an equal partner in the process with your therapist.

Some benefits of person centred counselling can include:

• overcoming depression, anxiety, grief, or stress

• strengthening trust in yourself and others

• achieving better self-awareness

• reducing feelings of guilt or insecurity

• seeking and sustaining healthier relationships

• …along with many more benefits

It is very important to me that I put your safety and needs first at all times.

I regularly participate in continued professional development to ensure my skills and experience are always developing, enabling me to provide the best possible support to you.

Thanks for taking the time to read my profile, you can find more information about me and how I work on my website. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you feel that we can work together. If not, may I wish you all the best going forward and in everything you do.

My first session

I offer a free 15-minute initial consultation to help you make a decision about whether we move forward together or not.

The aim of this session is for us to find out a bit more about each other and help us to decide if I could be the right counsellor for you. There is no obligation or expectation to continue if we feel I’m not right for you.

If we decide to continue, we would then book our first session at a mutually convenient time.

You can stop your counselling at any time. Please look at the FAQs on my website for more information.
