About me and my therapy practice
It takes an immense amount of courage to start counselling/psychotherapy. The fact that you are even here, reading these words, means that you know there is another way you could be feeling. I believe in your ability to grow and change, and I want to help. I work from practice rooms in Surbiton which are easily accessible to those in Kingston, Teddington, Thames Ditton, Hinchley Wood and Esher.
With my clients I use an integrative approach, incorporating Person-Centred, Gestalt and Transactional Analysis. Having an integrative approach means I have a range of psychotherapeutic ‘tools’ that I can call on. My work is always collaborative. You and I work closely together to find out what is distressing you and how we can best alleviate this pain.
I qualified as a psychotherapeutic counsellor from the well-respected Metanoia Institute in Ealing, West London and I am a registered member of the BACP. Having originally come from Canada, I have now lived in London for over 20 years. I worked within the construction industry for well over a decade and a half, before deciding to retrain as a counsellor and psychotherapist. I have found my calling.
From a place of compassion and empathy, I offer a warm welcome and safe environment to explore the issues that are causing you concern. I want to help and I believe you deserve support.
Practice description
In my private practice, I see a variety of clients experiencing a range of difficulties. Many come who need help to cope with and understand their depression, anxiety, or relationship issues. I have a lot of experience working in bereavement and have worked with men and women of all ages and backgrounds to come to terms with their loss.
Grief is a cluster of emotions and physical feelings, which can be disorientating, debilitating and disturbing for many people. We will work together to figure out what your loss means for you and how you can learn to live with it.
Along with more common issues like depression and anxiety, I also work with ill health and chronic pain, and I have a particular interest and experience in reproductive, pregnancy and fertility complications.
Anyone interested in delving deeper into their past so that they can better understand what is going on for them in the here and now, could benefit from working with me.
I also currently work in the NHS with patients at The Royal Marsden Hospital, supporting those who are undergoing treatment for cancer.
My first session
I always offer a free 15-minute phone call first so that I can learn a little about why you are seeking counselling now. If it sounds like I may be able to help you, then we can book our initial consultation. This will last 50-minutes and cost £80. In this consultation, along with understanding more about what has brought you to counselling, I will also ask questions about your family of origin (who you grew up with), school life and any significant events you have experienced.
We will explore what your hopes and expectations for counselling are, and I will take time to explain how I work. I like to think of this as a mutual assessment! It is really important that you feel comfortable with me and I would encourage you to meet with two or three counsellors before making a choice. I can always make referrals/recommendations to other counsellors and specialists, if you need these.
Most of all, I know just how difficult it can be to write that email, or make the phone call. Know that you deserve support and compassionate care, and I will endeavour to make the experience feel as safe and as comfortable as I possibly can for you.
I look forward to hearing from you.
