Availability

I work flexible hours including some weekends and evenings.  I work on-line for clients based in the UK or have premises available in St Helier town centre, Jersey, for in person/face to face work with clients if this is preferred.  My fees reflect prices for both on line (£60) and in person sessions (£75)

About me and my therapy practice

I am an Integrative Counsellor and Therapeutic Coach, having worked over 15 years in the mental health sector for local and national charities, higher education and more recently within the equality and diversity sector.  I am also a qualified Adoption Support Counsellor/Coach and work remotely with adoptees (over 18), adoptive parents and birth parents whose lives have been impacted by adoption.  I tailor my approach to the unique complexities the life-long emotional roller coaster of adoption can bring to those in the adoption triad.

Alongside my counselling work I have trained in Coaching and Positive Psychology, which encompasses a forward looking approach, building on client set outcomes in a non-judgemental and empathic way.  I am also an accredited Sober/Alcohol Free Coach for 'grey area' drinkers.

My combination of counselling and therapeutic coaching enables clients to untangle and explore issues such as infertility, adoptive parenthood, identity, abandonment, loss, shame and attachment alongside any unhelpful behavioural patterns which may be as a result of such experiences.

Practice description

I work using on-line platforms within a safe, confidential and welcoming environment.  I also offer face to face counselling for clients in Jersey in a private and easily accessible room in the centre of town.  I believe this approach offers both flexibility and access.  I work within the guidelines of GDPR and registered with the JOIC ensuring confidentiality and safe  practice.

The first step is a phone call or email which explains in more detail how I work, to establish client expectations and to outline the differences between coaching and counselling to ascertain which approach would be best for the therapeutic relationship.  Thereafter, sessions are up to an hour.

I send clients either a Coaching or Counselling Agreement (outlining the cancellation policy, fees, etc) which is signed by both parties before the first session.  Subsequent sessions are then up to one hour.

My first session

The first session can be very much exploratory, particularly if the counselling is around adoption.  However, sessions can also be forward moving and progressive, depending on the client, what they bring to the session and whether counselling or therapeutic coaching is the best way forward.

If sessions have an alcohol free focus, clients are asked to complete a questionnaire to establish if there are any risk indicators which would be explored together to find the best way forward.
