Availability

My sessions typically last for 50 minutes. I can provide face-to-face sessions at my therapy space, or online via secure platforms like Microsoft Teams or Zoom. If you prefer, there's also Walk and Talk therapy where you can experience the power of nature to help you work through your problems.

I have my own private counselling space based in Hillsborough, Sheffield. It is served by great public transport links and has ample parking facilities. Although my premise is located in the Sheffield area, I appreciate this is not accessible for all and therefore would love to work with clients from all over the South Yorkshire region and beyond via an online method.

I have evening availability Monday - Thursday but I am happy to negotiate around Fridays & weekends.

About me and my therapy practice

Counselling is an opportunity to sit down with a trained listener and engage in a therapeutic relationship to explore your difficulties in your own time and at your own pace. It is a contracted professional relationship that aims to facilitate change and growth.

I trained as a Person Centred Counsellor, which means I work with what you bring to the room, however I have also developed my work to integrate different approaches such as CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy) and solution focused therapy, which means I may set homework tasks for you to do outside of the sessions. This can help you to challenge some of your thoughts and beliefs that you may not have been finding helpful.

From experience, I know coming to counselling can be a worry. It can involve you exploring parts of your life you may never have talked to anyone about before. Please be assured that this is a confidential and safe space, I work with you, for you, to allow you to reach the goals you know you want to achieve, or the goals that may come as a result of our sessions.

I am a trained sleep practitioner, working with young people and adults and I also work as a Parenting Specialist with the Local Authority in Sheffield, here I deliver evidenced based parenting programmes to parents of children who suffer from moderate to severe anxiety and behavioural issues.

Practice description

I have a safe and comfortable therapy room that is located within an organisation called the Burton Street Foundation.  This organisation provides services to young people and adults with severe physical and mental disabilities.  I first started providing a free service to the staff of Burton Street when I was qualifying as a counsellor, a service that I continue to provide.

My room is private and easily accessible so that a wheelchair user would be able to come into the room.  There is parking onsite and nearby as well as a cafe that is also onsite.  I have also trained in walk & talk therapy to take advantage of the superb natural environments that Sheffield has to offer.

Coming to counselling is a big decision and can seem overwhelming and scary. Hopefully it can be an opportunity for you to sit in a protected and safe space that is just for you to explore what you are finding difficult.

As a trained counsellor it's my job to help you feel comfortable and safe. It is also important that you get the “right fit” for you, and I would encourage you to explore your options. If you chose to meet with me informally, you DO NOT have to commit to therapy if you feel I am not the right counsellor for you, and I will help direct you to alternative routes to access therapy if that would help.

People come to counselling for many different reasons, sometimes looking for answers to questions they might not know they have. My approach to counselling is only to work with what you bring into the room.

My first session

I am happy to provide a free initial consultation, either over the phone or online.  This is to establish the reasons for you coming to therapy and that we are happy to work with each other, this generally lasts 15 - 20 minutes.

In my first session, I will cover my journey into counselling, the main parts of my contract, which you will have received prior to the first session and I will also conduct assessments to see where you are regarding low mood and anxiety at the time of our first session.
