About me and my therapy practice
It can feel difficult to ask for support but you have taken the key first step in choosing a therapist. I can offer a confidential, non-judgemental space to explore the issues that matter to you.
You can contact me for a free 30 minute session to see if counselling is right for you. My primary approach is person-centred but I can use a range of tools and techniques, such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), to support you in the way which works best for you.
I am a member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP) which provides the ethical framework that ensures I work to professional standards.
My training, qualifications & experience
As a counsellor I have helped adults to deal with a wide range of problems and concerns affecting them. I also have extensive experience of working with vulnerable young people and children in schools, colleges, within the criminal justice system and those in care. I am a qualified Life Story Practitioner. I take a creative approach to support children and young people to engage with therapy.
I have worked within statutory and third sector agencies, including Local Authority Therapeutic Services and the Children and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS). As well as running Twelve Peaks Counselling, I also currently work with the Noah’s Ark Centre in Halifax.
Practice description
As an experienced person-centred counsellor I can give you the safe space to talk so we can work together to find what’s right for you. Our counselling sessions can help you take back control of the issues impacting your life through making sense of your emotions, understanding why you feel the way you do and recognising how these feelings affect you. It can sometimes feel as though what you’re experiencing is a mountain to climb or that the path you’re on is rocky and unstable, but we can walk it together so you can develop greater understanding of the things you’re going through and work through your concerns at your pace. You don’t have to do things alone.
Our lives can be busy; whether it’s work, relationships or something that’s happened to us, we often don’t give ourselves the space and time to look after our wellbeing. Sometimes it’s enough to chat things over with a friend or family member but, when our worries are too much or everything is overwhelming, working with a counsellor can help us move forward.
