About me and my therapy practice

I offer in person and online counselling to adults and young people from my fully accessible and conveniently located counselling room in Combe Down, Bath.

As a neurodiversity affirming counsellor, I work a lot with clients who are, or who care for people who are neurodivergent or have disabilities. To be neurodiversity affirming means understanding that all brain types are part of the natural diversity of the human population, and that neurodivergent brains should be considered as natural and important, not disordered, whilst recognising that this is often not peoples lived experience.

Although I believe that we are the experts on ourselves, sometimes life can feel confusing and overwhelming, and it helps to have someone really listen and try to understand. I do not make decisions for you but work collaboratively with you to explore the best way for you to move forward.  I will suspend assumptions and meet you on your own terms with my fully authentic self. I will provide a safe environment without judgement or expectations. This may be a new and unique experience in your life.

As a person-centred therapist my aim is to attune and respond to how you are in the moment, to follow your direction and pace.  We might talk about your life and relationships now and in the past, including your childhood.  We will explore emotions, some of which you may not even be aware of yet. This means that difficult feelings can emerge in therapy; I will work with you to help you be with them.  This may include using visualisations, mindfulness, breathing or other body techniques.

Practice description

I believe that we are all individuals, shaped by our unique life experiences, with our own pain and struggles. I provide a calm and confidential space to listen without judgement, to help you process whatever is going on for you in that moment, and to be alongside you in it.  Through empathy and compassion I can model what I believe to be essential for healing: self-compassion.

My training is in Humanistic and Integrative Counselling. What does this mean? The therapeutic relationship is often cited as the most important contributor to positive change.  This relational approach is at the core of how I work, whilst also drawing from a variety of therapeutic theories as we look to find the source of difficult feelings and to make sense of your experience.

I trained at the Bath Centre for Psychotherapy and Counselling, which is considered to be the "gold standard" amongst training organisations.  I am working towards accreditation and have regular supervision with a BACP accredited supervisor.

I have experience of working across a range of clients, including clients who are neurodivergent, and presentations including trauma, stress, anger, low self-esteem, depression, bereavement, anxiety and difficulty with relationships.

I am based in fully accessible premises in Combe Down, Bath, which can be reached by bus from Bath centre, and has ample free on-site parking.
