About me and my therapy practice
Counselling provides a space for you to reconnect with your sense of self, discover the path to personal fulfilment, and release your potential.
Using a person-centred approach I provide genuine care and understanding; allowing you to move from an experience of being stuck, to an experience of growth.
I myself have experienced the powerful healing that can come from connection, warmth, and caring.
Over the past 15 years I have worked extensively within counselling delivering one-to-one sessions, facilitating therapy groups, managing services, and training counsellors at university.
My interest is in helping clients to voice experiences in ways that feel meaningful to them, so they can move forward in good health.
My commitment is to be alongside you in your process of change.
Practice description
As life is varied so to is my counselling practice. Sessions are offered on a short term or long term basis being either face-to-face, online, outdoors, or by telephone.
Sessions last for one hour.
My first session
It is important to choose a counsellor you feel comfortable with, as the quality of the relationship is central to healing. With this in mind the first session is dedicated to forming a trusting relationship.
It may be that you have questions and I will be happy to respond. Likewise, you may want space to share something of yourself; what brings you to counselling, struggles you have encountered, and areas where you hope for change.
All first sessions are unique and will be lead by the needs you share as we get to know one and other.

About me and my therapy practice
I qualified as a Supervisor in 2010 and supervise using a person-centered approach.
As a supervisor my approach assumes the social world we inhabit consists of many realities, rather than one concrete reality. So I work to facilitate your understanding of clients, so clients might better understand themselves.
By attending to the dynamic change processes that occurs through reflective practice I hope to enhance your awareness so that you can fully encounter clients.
A passion of mine is finding authentic experiences that have lost, or never found, a voice. I am interested in social justice, diversity, and equality and work to support supervisees in reaching their full potential.
As a supervisor I facilitate an egalitarian relationship with supervisees, while ethically holding clients in mind.
Practice description
Having worked in helping professions for over 25 years I bring a wealth of experience to supervision.
My vocational roles in the field have included, manager of counselling services, counselling supervisor, and lecturer in counselling.
Sectors I have worked with include homelessness, addiction, schools, community and adult education, social care, social work, sexual abuse services, and mental health services.
Currently, I hold a private practice for my client work and I am employed at university where I deliver professional training in counselling and psychotherapy.
I find this balance of practice and tutoring allows me to offer a well-rounded supervisory experience.
My first session
The focus of the first session is on creating a working relationship based on mutual trust and respect.
Within this space we can explore the relational fit and you can decide if our encounter is something you wish to take forward and develop.
It may be that you have questions, and if so, I will be happy to respond to them.
As I believe the right supervisory relationship is central to good practice I offer a reduced rate of £35 for the first session. This discounted rate remains for students on placement.
A preliminary telephone conversation is also on offer.

About me and my therapy practice
Learning is a process that never ends and we each need to walk our own path, with this in mind I offer learner centred training to enhance life, relationship, and self.
My bespoke training is offered to groups or organisations looking to expand their understanding of growth and change from a counselling perspective.
My ethos is to value the skills and resources held within the training group with a view to facilitating meaningful development.
I have experience of delivering training to staff, service users, members of the community, and students.
A passion is embodied training focused on felt sense and movement.
Practice description
Having worked for over 25 years within helping professions I bring a wealth of experience to my role as trainer.
Within the field of counselling my employment has included the roles of counsellor, counselling supervisor, and counselling services manager.
In education I have been situated in university, collage, and community. Holding the roles of lecturer, tutor, and teaching fellow.
Contexts in which I have facilitated training include community engagement, nhs, social work, and social care.
I can focus on generic counselling skills or specialist counselling such as addiction, sexual abuse, working with children, risk management, reflexive practice, or confidence building.
In addition to structured program delivery I have experience of facilitating group reflection on reoccurring challenges and progression routes. I also have experience of group and individual consultation.
I am able to offer bespoke training face-to-face or online.
Delivery is informative and experiential and I seek to develop a sense of self-belief in participants. Each of us is, after all, a learner.
My first session
The scope of the first session is tailored to the needs of the group. Generally speaking, a first session is focused on establishing rapport and safety in the training environment.
It is useful to have in mind an overview of your training needs; topic, duration, number of participants, preferred location, the required level of complexity.
For organisations I can offer an exploratory meeting to map training needs.
