About me and my therapy practice
If you are struggling with day to day life and your usual coping strategies aren't working anymore, I can help you gain insight into aspects of your life which are difficult, painful or leave you in constant conflict.
I create a relaxed and informal environment in which you can be open and honest about yourself, your relationships and issues. By providing a space for exploration, curiosity and reflection, you can gain clarity and meaning that builds a platform for change, through:
Deep exploration - working through unprocessed memories, conflicts and experiences so that they don't impact what's happening now
Insight and awareness - using the past to understand what's happening in the present and influencing the future
Engagement and curiosity - creating openness by reducing the barriers that have developed through time
Long-lasting change - lasting inner growth and development so that you can move forward by giving you more choice and increased wellbeing
I offer in-person and online therapy to clients, depending what is convenient to you; geography is no object!
By investing in yourself you can redefine the way you think about your lived experience and build emotional resilience for what's to come.
Practice description
The focus of my work is you and what you bring to the session. I offer a relaxed approach that engenders empathy and safety, enabling you to be seen, heard and believed. In working with me, you are free to express yourself authentically; you can openly explore your thoughts, emotions, and experiences without fear of judgment.
Through the relationship we create in our work together, we can also create an opportunity for you to learn, develop and find meaning in your past. From exploring childhood experiences, to the thoughts and feelings that drive you today, self-awareness and understanding are at the core of what we do.
My approach centres on helping you reframe how you see your past experiences and in engaging your curiosity, I can help develop insight into what's causing you distress so that you gain control over your emotions, decisions and relationships.
With extensive experience of adults and older adults, I can help you to navigate the boundaries between your own feelings and those influenced by others, through the unconscious impact of family dynamics and the pressures of what society expects. I create an environment in which thinking issues such as trauma, shame and identity, can be informative in understanding yourself and what you want to change.
By focusing on what truly matters to you, we lay the foundation for a more purposeful and fulfilling life.
My first session
It's difficult to ask for help, but by doing so you've acknowledged that something needs to change.
We begin an initial online or telephone consultation to gain an overview of your issues. This is followed by an in-depth assessment of your background, issues and what you want to get out of therapy, and a discussion about the practicalities of engaging in therapy with me. Should you wish to continue, I will offer a contract for ongoing sessions, each lasting 50 minutes. These take place weekly at the same time and place, the commitment to which is an important aspect of the work we do together.
In our initial session, you may find yourself speaking cautiously, perhaps with moments of silence. This is entirely normal. My role is to attentively listen—to your words, silences, and everything in between. Through this process, we uncover the patterns and themes woven into the fabric of your past and present, revealing insights that can guide the way forward.
While this process may initially evoke discomfort, rest assured that it is a natural part of the therapeutic process. As you become more familiar with our sessions, you'll find yourself increasingly at ease, allowing for deeper exploration and understanding.
