About me and my therapy practice

As a Psychodynamic Psychotherapist and Counsellor based in the heart of Cambridgeshire, my practice focuses on adults from a wide variety of backgrounds and needs.  I provide a safe, non-judgemental and containing space in which you can talk freely about your thoughts, feelings, dreams, desires and experiences, and gain insight into aspects of your life which are difficult, painful or leave you in constant conflict.

I create a relaxed and informal environment in which you can be open and honest about yourself, your relationships and issues.  I don't offer quick fixes or easy answers. Instead, I provide a space for exploration, curiosity and reflection, where you can gain clarity and meaning through a process that involves:

Deep exploration - working through unprocessed memories, conflicts, experiences and dreams

Insight and awareness - using the past to understand what's happening in the present

Engagement and curiosity - developing an openness by reducing the barriers that have been created through time

Long-lasting change - creating lasting inner growth and development so that you can move forward

I offer in-person and online therapy to clients, depending on what is convenient or accessible.  The majority of my work with clients is in-person at my practice at The Abbots Ripton Clinic in Huntingdon.  Although the dynamic in the therapy room can be transformative in our work together, it's the relationship that brings insight into what happens elsewhere in your life.  It gives you deeper understanding and meaning to your  thoughts, memories, relationships and experiences, giving you choice in how to manage them.  By investing in yourself you can redefine the way you think about your lived experience and build emotional resilience for what's to come.

Practice description

The focus of my work is you and what you bring to the session. I offer a relaxed approach that engenders empathy and safety, enabling you to be seen, heard and believed.  In working with me, you are free to express yourself authentically; you can openly explore your thoughts, emotions, and experiences without fear of judgment.

Through the relationship we create in our work together, we can also create an opportunity for you to learn, develop and find meaning in your past.  From exploring childhood experiences, to the thoughts and feelings that drive you today, self-awareness and understanding are at the core of what we do.

My approach centres on helping you reframe how you see your past experiences and in engaging your curiosity, I can help develop insight into what's causing you distress so that you gain agency over your emotions, decisions and relationships.

With extensive experience of adults and older adults, I can help you to navigate the boundaries between your own feelings and those influenced by others, through the unconscious impact of relationships and societal expectations. I create an environment in which thinking about difference and how it impacts you on issues such as trauma, shame and identity, can be informative in understanding yourself and what you want to change.

I don't offer quick fixes or easy answers. Instead, I provide a space for deep exploration and reflection, where you can gain clarity and meaning. By focusing on what truly matters to you, we lay the foundation for a more purposeful and fulfilling life.

My first session

By starting to think about therapy, you've taken the first step. It's difficult to ask for help, but by doing so you've acknowledge that something needs to change.

At the core of our work together lies the dynamic between us—it's the cornerstone of effective psychodynamic practice. Understanding why you've chosen therapy, delving into the background that led you here, and comprehending the impact of your struggles, are all vital steps in this process.

We begin an initial online or telephone consultation to gain a more in-depth understanding of your needs.  This is followed by an in-depth assessment of your background, issues and what you want to get out of therapy, and a discussion about the practicalities of engaging in therapy with me. Should you wish to continue, I will offer a contract for ongoing sessions, each lasting 50 minutes. These take place weekly at the same time and place, the commitment to which is an important aspect of the work we do together.

In our initial session, you may find yourself speaking cautiously, perhaps with moments of silence. This is entirely normal. My role is to attentively listen—to your words, silences, and everything in between. Through this process, we uncover the patterns and themes woven into the fabric of your narrative, revealing insights that can guide the way forward.

While this process may initially evoke discomfort, rest assured that it is a natural part of the therapeutic process. As you become more familiar with our sessions, you'll find yourself increasingly at ease, allowing for deeper exploration and understanding.
