About me and my therapy practice
I am an integrative therapist offering talk-based therapy, drawing on multiple therapeutic approaches to suit my clients. I work from a soulful (transpersonal) perspective which means I consider what meaning we might make of the difficulties we face as well as looking to understand what events and patterns might have created those difficulties. I am IFS (Internal Family Systems) informed.
Feel free to contact me with any questions or to arrange a session to explore whether you would like to work together.
Practice description
Research shows that the most important factor for therapy to be successful is the relationship between client and therapist. I work in a warm and sensitive way welcoming open conversation and I bring my full self and life experience to our work together. I offer a confidential, non-judgemental space to explore both your internal world, and the situation in which you find yourself.
Our work together will support immediate challenges and look to understand the ways in which the past may affect your present. Together we can reflect on who you are and what is important to you now and moving forwards. You may feel empowered as you connect with, express and develop a language for emotional difficulty and move towards a deeper understanding of yourself.
There are no wrong answers in therapy and all parts of you are welcome. I embrace exploration of your wider context such as family, culture, community, the environment, socio economic factors, race, class, gender, sexuality, identity, and many other things which all profoundly impact how we experience the world.
I have a background in the performing and creative arts and can work with stories and myth as guides or maps into the subconscious. I use drawing, movement, music, myth and dreams where appropriate and when a client is interested. The arts speak in metaphor and metaphor is the language of soul. Sometimes if we feel lost, stuck or caught in a pattern or when our usual coping strategies feel redundant we can listen in different ways - to dreams, yearnings, and unacknowledged feelings. Working creatively with our hearts can lead us to new understanding and a sense of personal power.
My first session
Our first meeting would be an assessment session for us to explore together the reasons you have come to therapy and what you would like to get out of it. It is really important that you feel I am the right person for you to work with before you make any commitment (and vice versa)
If we are both happy to proceed we would have a weekly session at an agreed time and day. I would usually suggest an initial contract of six sessions which we would review on the 5th session after which we can work to an agreed number of sessions or in an open ended way.
Sessions are fifty minutes.
I am happy for you to contact me with any questions you have or to arrange a session to explore working together.
