About me and my therapy practice
People seek therapy for many reasons and life sometimes can leave you with depressive feelings, anxiety or lack of confidence, anger or loss.
I offer Individual Counselling for Adults and youg adults. It may be you carry an sense of emptiness or unhappiness, or simply unable to name this dread being felt . This can lead to feelings of confusion, second guessing yourself or painful internal conflict and, perhaps, you feel that you may need help to understand what is going on for you. Perhaps you feel lost, no real way of moving forward or you may feel that you need to deal with a specific issue or trauma.
Psychodynamic Counselling is concerned with helping you gain a deeper understanding of your feelings, experiences and behaviour, past and present, conscious and unconscious - with a focus on making the unconscious understood by the conscious self. Our past, our lives before today can have a powerful influence in the now, on our relationships and on how we deal with what life can throw at us.
Sharing feelings, thoughts and fears can not only ease mental pain but also bring fresh insight, helping you to understand and make sense of things that may feel confusing. This can facilitate change and help you move forward in your life.
Counselling may be an effective way of offering you the space to think about, explore and talk about issues that may be concerning you or affecting the quality of your life. This is offered in a safe, confidential and non-judgemental environment.
I work in private practice only and I am a Member of The Finchley Therapy Practice (www.finchleytherapypractice.co.uk). I am a member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy and adhere to its ethical framework & guidelines.
I am also a clinical hypnotherapist and can bring this in to our sessions if we identify that it may be helpful to you.
Practice description
Together we will seek out the patterns in relationships, in work, in the room, in life. It is hoped the insight gained by you from our thinking together might offer new options in thinking and acting going forwards, outside of the historic usual responses. Ultimately this can lead to growth and change within and can help us to feel better equipped to carry on, unstuck, with life.
My first session
Our first session will begin, as they all do, with you talking about what is on your mind. Unlike subsequent sessions there may be a few questions that I ask, designed to help me to understand you a little better and the issues that you wish to face.
We will use the first session to understand what you want out of the therapy and will decide which methods and approaches will best suit your needs, and it may be we use one or more:
Psychodynamic counselling - Longer term therapy designed to bring to the attention of your conscious self that which has been unconscious previously and may be having a powerful impact, particularly on relationships, in the now.
Psychospiritual therapy - Combining psychological and spiritual thinking and behaviours/practices to support an overall exploration and development of the self.
Hypnotherapy - Used in support of the other therapies.
Creative Writing Therapy - Through analysis and discussion of your written work, poems, stories, scripts, essays etc we can think together about your internal world and what themes, learnings might appear as a result.
Short-Term 'Grief to Growth' plan combining all elements above as required to help clients through the worst of emotional pain. Bereavements, relationship breakdowns and betrayals and indeed any loss that feels incredibly painful today. This therapy is designed to get you through that time and try to set you up for a new beginning, a transition period in to your new life, free of the pain and on a path to growth, however you define it.
