About me and my therapy practice
Hi, my practice CECE Relational Therapy is based in the North Yorkshire area. I work with individual adults, couples, families, groups and adolescents 13-17. I work face to face with clients in York, alongside offering online and telephone sessions.
I am an integrative therapist and within my working model I offer a welcoming, confidential, safe and non-judgemental space for all clients. Through open and respectful Communication, Empathy, Compassion and Exploration, clients explore past and present experiences. To help gain a clearer perspective on the impacts and challenges such experiences present in their life.
I work on an open-ended basis or for an agreed time period. Working with a wide range of issues.
I have BEAT NHS training working with individuals with eating disorders and phobias.
I have experience working with clients impacted by infertility, miscarriages, early preterm births and perinatal depression.
Alongside my private practice I currently have a counselling contract; in a tertiary education setting working with adolescents with varying experiences/issues i.e. self-harm, isolation, child on child abuse, anxiety, identity, stress, online grooming, bullying.
I have previously worked with individuals, couples and families through Relate, Cross Pennines working with issues such as: communication breakdown, empty nest syndrome, infidelity, alcoholism, self-harm, impact of insolvency/bankruptcy, complexities of blended families, separation, co-parenting, unplanned pregnancy.
Worked with clients suffering from drug, alcohol, sex, gambling addiction through a faith based charity in Hull. Worked with clients who have been/are impacted by discrimination and hate crimes against LGBT+ individuals/the community, alongside individual clients and families impacted by domestic violence and abuse.
Practice description
As an integrative counsellor/psychotherapist I apply a variety of modalities into my work with clients (these can be seen within the “types of therapy” section on my profile). Systemic therapy is at the core of my practice and helps to bring focus on each individual client in the context of their relationships with self and others. Applying systemic therapy helps clients better recognise that being a unique individual is not isolated but is part of a larger system such as: a family, couple, community. Being part of a bigger system can be complex and at times challenging and impacts how we view ourselves, others and the world around us.
I never position myself as the expert of any client. Each client I work with and the process of the counselling sessions will be very unique to them and are person-centred/client led. This is the case whether I am working with an individual client, a couple, family or group. The aim of this approach is for client(s) to explore, discuss, and sit with their own thoughts, experiences and issues. Working towards finding a path forward that works for them and helps them better understand their own experiences and needs. With the aim of helping them gain a clearer perspective on the impacts and challenges such experiences have had and present in their life and relational connections; working towards a future where they (you) are better equipped to navigate them.
My first session
I offer an initial free Zoom or telephone session, these are booked in advance and arranged via email. The session lasts for 20-25 minutes and will give you an opportunity to ask any questions you may have. Decide whether you wish sessions to take place via telephone, online or Face to Face. The initial session can also be beneficial for clients and myself to get an overall feel of whether we feel I am a good fit for them as a therapist going forward.
Following this if you wish to proceed further a slot will be allocated and the first session will be booked. You will receive the working contract 24hrs before the first session for you to look over. The contract is a formal agreement between me, the therapist and my client(s) and details the terms of our therapeutic relationship. It includes my practices contact details, my professional memberships and sets out ethical boundaries and expectations. This will be sent via email. The contract will be briefly discussed in our first session to ensure any questions you may have are discussed and answered. The contract will then be signed to show you fully understand and agree to the contents of the working contract. If client is under 16 they, alongside a parent/carer, will sign the contract. All completed forms need to be emailed back to me prior to our first session. Alternatively, if sessions are taking place face-face and clients request it, a hard copy of the contract can be provided and will be brought to the first session for client(s) to complete and sign.
Following the initial session, in the next session there will be an assessment to complete. The assessment has 10 questions that are scored from 0-10. The aim of the assessment is to give me an overview of any possible safeguarding concerns and to ensure they are addressed correctly and support is put in place.
If you require any further information please do not hesitate to contact me.
