About me and my therapy practice
Hello my name is Farhana and as a BACP registered counsellor I am committed to working ethically and professionally at all times. I work integratively which means I tailor the therapy to suit the individual needs of my clients, and provide an impartial space whereby you feel that you are truly heard. The theory behind my work is predominantly based on humanistic, psychodynamic and CBT models, all of which look at patterns of behaviour, gaining self-awareness, and focusing on long lasting change.
My ethos is that the therapeutic working alliance is at the heart of everything I do, and is the foundation of where the work begins. For many, counselling can feel like a daunting, overwhelming, and insecure place to be, so the goal is to ensure my clients feel safe and secure in the knowledge that they have entered in to a working relationship that is professional, genuine, kind, non-judgmental, and empathic.
The journey to true, positive change can be one that is confronting and challenging at times, but can also be incredibly empowering, and the start to living the life you have always wanted to live. The past does not have to define your whole future, and therapy can help support you in that. From my experience I hold the view that you have most of the resources you need, and the therapeutic space can facilitate you in unlocking those resources.
I pride myself on being a counsellor who respects and welcomes difference, diversity and equality, and am happy to work with clients from any background.
Practice description
My face to face practice is based in Banstead, Surrey, and I offer online sessions via the Zoom platform. I am also happy to offer telephone counselling for clients who may not be able to access face to face or online sessions.
All sessions are 50 minutes long.
My first session
I offer a free 20-30 minute phone consultation to discuss your needs, and what goals you are looking to work on in the therapeutic process. I then send out an assessment form which will ask for you to provide your details, followed by the counselling contract for you to read and make sure you are fully comfortable with before signing. First sessions are then charged at the standard rate of £60 as we can go straight in to the work having had the consultation, and all information provided and agreed upon in the assessment form and contract. The first session will often be based around looking at the reasons for coming to therapy more closely, and considering what you would really like to achieve by the end of your therapeutic journey. What I can help with
