About me and my therapy practice
My areas of experience are in supporting people with anxiety, bereavement and loss, trauma-related feelings, and relationship issues. I am also interested in the long term effects of boarding school.
Working together we will find solutions. I appreciate that finding someone to share your thoughts and emotions with can be a daunting task. I understand the importance of feeling heard and valued. I believe that the most effective solutions for those in distress are achieved when you feel safe, supported and trusted.
My part in your journey would be to offer a space in which I will help you manage your anxiety. Together we can explore why you might be experiencing uncomfortable thoughts and feelings, develop an understanding of yourself, and gain new skills that will lead you toward a less conflicting, more settled future.
Practice description
I am an Integrative Counsellor. This simply means I am able to draw upon one, or several, models of practice best suited to an individual’s needs. This enables me to address a wide range of issues from the simple disquiet we all experience, to deep personal crisis. More specifically my counselling experience, mostly gained within an NHS clinical environment, includes supporting people through bereavement and loss, and in ongoing effects of childhood trauma such as complex family relationships, being sent away to boarding school, and identity crisis. My work is informed by a psychodynamic approach, supporting clients in their exploration of past experiences as a means to understand their present. Together we will look at what’s given rise to the unaccustomed or uncomfortable feelings you may be experiencing.
Working with bereaved clients and those who have suffered trauma has enabled me to create a framework in helping clients find a language for their emotional experiences, bringing clarity to confusing feelings.
I have an understanding of neurological processing, which means I am able to offer a view of current behavioural patterns, shedding light on the present in order to guide the future.
On occasion there may be value in exploring the use of avoidance and resistance strategies, which can for example assist you in considering more harmonious, congruent engagements with others.
