About me and my therapy practice
I am Sue and welcome to my page.
I appreciate that taking this step to seek support can be daunting and choosing a counsellor is hard so please let me start by sharing with you a little bit about me, my background, and my practice.
You may be feeling anxious, or have a low mood, angry, sad, or experiencing a loss of relationship or bereavement of a loved one. A myriad of overwhelming emotions. You may be hurting or in despair.
So, through therapy we can build together a warm relationship where you can feel safe and secure to express those feelings and emotions and not be judged or scorned. This will then empower you to explore the sense of life through thoughts, feelings and experiences and I will walk alongside you as you do so.
So about me.
I worked in the emergency services for many years and am experienced in dealing with traumas and distressing situations. I understand the impact of bereavement and being the victim or accused of a crime and how that can impact on life and ability to cope.
I now work in Higher Education as a counsellor and in student support and have a good awareness of Safeguarding and Prevent concerns and management of these within an educational setting.
I hold an enhanced DBS certificate.
I am qualified to work with adults and hold an additional qualification in working with children and young people. I have also completed training in supporting clients with neuro diversities.
I am a member of the BACP and work fully within their ethical framework.
I am also a qualified trainer in Mental Health First Aid with MHFA England and as well as running courses I can offer some more short-term solution focussed work on specific issues if required.
I hold a Level 3 qualification in Mental Health with RSPH.
I hope that by building our relationship and working together you will be begin to grow and heal and embrace new ways of being and behaviours and reconnect with yourself leading to fulfilment and personal growth.
Practice description
My practice this is set within a beautiful tranquil space in the countryside. I am located between Newbury and Basingstoke just one minute from the main road. My room overlooks fields and woodland with Watership Down in the distance. It is an incredibly peaceful and tranquil space where confidence can be assured with free on-site parking and disabled access. The space affords me the option to offer indoor and outdoor sessions on the terrace as well as walk and talk therapy. All of this is completely your choice. I feel at peace here and I hope you will find peace as well.
I am an integrative counsellor meaning that I don't believe in a 'one size fits all' approach. I will therefore use a variety of different modalities to support you. I do focus my approach to suit your needs and can do this in a variety of ways according to what you prefer.
If you find talking about some issues a struggle, I may also use some creative tools as well to assist you in expressing and exploring your emotions. I find this particularly benefits younger clients and those who are neuro diverse where traditional therapy may be a struggle.
My first session
For the relationship to develop I feel it is important to have an introductory call to ensure we are compatible, and I am the best therapist to assist you with your specific needs. This will be around twenty minutes and not charged as it is important the match is correct.
I will e mail you my terms and conditions should you wish to proceed so we can begin our work.
I charge £50 per session which lasts for 50 minutes and is payable prior to the session.
