About me and my therapy practice
You might have been overwhelmed by a sudden life event, have a niggle that life could be more satisfying, or feel a lack of balance and peace. All these situations, although different on the surface, can leave us feeling stuck, yet paradoxically lost.
I can offer you the time and confidential space to talk with someone independent, trained and experienced in supporting you to explore whatever you need to. We will create a safe space that is completely focussed on your issues.
My main aim is to build up a trusting professional relationship, providing complete acceptance. Using my skills and experience, I will work towards enabling you to find new perspectives and your own solutions.
You can choose for us to work in-person in my confidential therapy room in my home, online where I would use Zoom for our session, or we can 'Walk-and-Talk' using the benefits of being outdoors.
Practice description
We will work in a way that is unique to you and bespoke to what you bring, so please contact me, so we can find out if we would work well together.
The technical term for how I work is person-centred - the BACP website can provide a really good overview of what this means. We will work on creating a trusting equal relationship, where you are able to let me know what it is like to be you and I tune in openly to all the ways you communicate this. This way we can together find patterns in your life experiences, metaphors for how your life is and begin to untangle what it means to be you.
If you want to, I will introduce ways of working involving various forms of creativity, with the aim of befriending your imagination and allowing this part of you to illustrate underlying meanings and point us in the direction of possible ways forward.
I am also qualified to offer techniques to allow you to work in a relaxed state of mind, moving away from the stress of 'fight, flight, freeze' towards 'rest and digest', which often helps us to reflect and process issues in a more open and beneficial way.
My first session
I offer a free, non-obligatory, 20-minute first contact, either over the phone, via Zoom or in-person. This will not involve counselling, but will give us an opportunity to agree how we could work together, whether we would meet in-person, online (I use Zoom) or outdoors; 'Walk and Talk'.
For our full first session together, we then meet either in-person or online. We spend time making a more formal agreement on how we will work together, a proforma of which I would email you in advance, together with my Privacy Notice. We would also begin to look at a focus for our sessions together (not set in stone - this may change throughout), and we would agree on how many sessions you would like, or leave it open-ended. It is an opportunity for you to bring any questions about how I work, that haven't been answered. There is normally also some time left to begin exploring what is happening in your life.
