About me and my therapy practice

Hello, my name is Kate and I'm a Humanistic Counsellor, grounded in Person Centred Counselling based in East Yorkshire.

My practice is based entirely ONLINE to allow people to access therapy from the comfort of their own safe environment.

I offer support to people living with anxiety, bereavement, depression, menopause (peri & post), redundancy/life changes, stress and questions around sexuality.

I work in a relational way, I'm not scared to use analogies or use pop culture to enhance the therapeutic relationship. I'm a firm believer that 'all of life's riddles are answered in the movies'.

Specialisms

Chronic Pain - I know how hard life can be when you are living with chronic pain. The pain impacts more that just your body and can feel like a loss.

Skin issues - As someone who lives with psoriasis and rosacea, I can understand how that can undermine your self esteem and can work with you to build that up again.

Media Industry stress - Prior to becoming a therapist, I spent 20 years working as a Broadcast Journalist. Working in the media can bring acute stresses and work anxiety and I can offer an understanding space to Journalists and Technical staff to work through those issues.

My personal philosophy

I believe that everyone carries a puzzle within them and they also hold the answers to the puzzle.

Think of it looking like a Rubik's cube. Sometimes it can get a little jumbled through life events like relationship breakdown, stress and loss.

Sometimes the squares could be confusion or something hidden, it’s my job as the counsellor to help the client make sense of that square and what it means to them.

Through the work of therapy, the client makes small changes and the pieces move and fall into place.

It is not about completing the whole puzzle - putting in some of the pieces could be enough for the client to feel positive change.

Practice description

My practice is based entirely online, via Zoom which allows me the flexibility to offer sessions outside the 9 to 5.

This also allows me to have clients from outside East Yorkshire.

I aim to answer all enquires within 48 hours. If contact is made over a weekend, I'll be in touch on the next business day,

My first session

First sessions can feel overwhelming so I try to keep them as simple as possible.

I'll ask brief assessment questions around presenting issues, previous experience of therapy etc. We will also touch upon the therapy contract which will guide our journey.

If you want to go ahead with sessions, then a signed contract needs to be sent back before sessions start.
