About me and my therapy practice

If you are reading this, then you have been brave enough to reach out even though you might not understand why you are feeling the way you are, and are terrified about taking the next step. Sound familiar? If so, that's okay...because together we can explore your fears and confusion in a safe and confidential space.

My name is  Maxine and I am a huge people person - genuinely warm, refreshingly down to earth and really easy to engage with, which is exactly what is needed when you are reaching out for help. Alongside all aspects of counselling, I too, am HUGELY passionate regarding all Menopausal issues, for all or anyone impacted. This is a main area of interest for me.

In life we all have 'stuff' that we carry, but at times that baggage can become increasingly heavy and difficult to comprehend, or share even with our most loved ones. We don't want to 'be a burden' or 'appear weak' or 'feel like a failure'. Often our thoughts become so overwhelming that thinking becomes irrational, and this can lead to a very frightening and lonely place. But guess what ? It's totally okay to NOT feel okay and it's totally okay to feel sad or lost or confused or just really downright angry about it all!  Life can feel suffocating, challenging, debilitating, utterly exhausting... and so unfair ..

Together though, in this safe space without judgement and with total acceptance,  we can work together, at YOUR pace to try to help YOU understand and gently begin to unpack that heavy load. Does that sound okay ?

In addition to my counselling experience, I have spent a number of years working as a Listening Volunteer with The Samaritans, both on the phone and face face. My involvement here has covered a diverse range of ages, genders, ethnicities and social classes, including prisoners  - dealing with issues ranging from sadness and isolation, feeling stuck, right through to self harm and suicidal thoughts/plans.

Practice description

I work in an integrative, but Person Centred way, which means that YOU, the client, are totally central in our therapeutic journey, after all, you are your own best expert right ?

I won't EVER judge, but instead, aim to view things from YOUR perspective through YOUR eyes, in a way you may never have been seen or heard, in order for me to properly understand your situation. Then, we can figure out together, which approach will suit you best. In life people rarely listen..... REALLY listen but to be truly heard can have an incredible impact, and I promise to do my best to achieve this

My aim is to build enough trust and respect within our therapeutic relationship for you to feel safe enough to work through that heavy load.  Then, ultimately for you to move towards feeling lighter,  empowered and more in control.

Through working together, essentially it offers you the opportunity for self-growth and to become more confident about who you REALLY are and what is right and best for you.

I offer in person, face to face counselling either short term, medium or long, dependent on each individual's needs.

Reaching out for help and then finding the right person can feel frightening, but at the same time it could prove extremely liberating.  So don't be afraid to make that initial contact with me, with no obligation, and let's see if we can work together.

My first session

I offer a free initial, no obligation, 15/20 minute informal telephone conversation. Here we can decide whether or not we are a 'good fit' and whether or not you might like to schedule a first appointment.
