About me and my therapy practice

Hi, I'm Mary. I work in a person-centred way to create a non-judgemental and safe space where you can freely talk through the issues causing you problems in your life right now.

I work to BACP ethical principles where trust and confidentiality are at the core of my practice.

Person-centred therapy helps clients talk through their problems with a compassionate and caring therapist, which means that as we journey through therapy, the solutions discovered as we progress together will naturally fit into your life as you find out more about yourself and why you feel like this at the moment.

I provide therapy in the following ways to keep my prices lower and reduce overall costs:

- Online through a trusted platform,

- I also provide telephone therapy where that feels better for you. Some clients find it helpful to talk in their own space with no-one else physically present.

- I am also able to offer walking outdoor therapy as I believe this natural way of working, using the outdoors as an inspirational tool, really helps to focus on the heart of the problem to unravel it.

- I will provide home visits where bereavement is the main issue.

My person-centred practice means that most problems encountered by the individual are found to be rooted in themselves, from something in their past that is now catching up with them. I can help you explore what is happening for you, with you, in a sensitive and empathic way.

We will work together to see how many sessions might be needed, so this may be open-ended arrangement or short term depending on your needs and wishes.

I work in a safe way, being fully insured and appointing a reliable and knowledgeable supervisor that I trust, to ensure my practice is safe for you.

My fees are kept low to reflect the fact that my overheads are lower, and in recognition of the cost of living crisis currently being experienced by most people.

Each session lasts 50 minutes and is booked in advance.

Payment is also taken in advance to secure the booking time.

Practice description

I trained at Edge Hill University, gaining my degree in Person-centred experiential therapy which is humanistic.

I currently volunteer for Cruse bereavement services.

Bereavement and loss are the main focus of my practice. Sometimes our feelings of grief are so overwhelming, we just need to get the thoughts and feelings out. This is what I can help you to do, in an empathic and compassionate way.

Where you are suffering with grief and unable to talk to others about it, I can offer home visits where that space may be more practical for you, and help you to talk more freely about your thoughts and feelings.

Loss also includes loss of a pet, a job, and such things as your identity or self-esteem, who you thought you were as a result of life changes such as menopause, loss of job, relocating, loss of family. I can help you talk through these losses and changes.

I retired from the Civil Service after around 35 years service. My experiences in work and work relationships positively informs my practice.

My personal experience of menopausal issues whilst in work and in my personal life, alongside completion of developmental certificates in this area and a research piece for my degree, further informs my practice, how I work, and has enhanced my therapeutic skills through this additional personal knowledge.

My continual professional development means I am also able to provide therapy for issues relating to work stress, anxiety, menopause, emotional problems, relationship problems.
