About me and my therapy practice
Hello, I'm James, a qualified therapist specialising in addiction and common mental health problems. My journey in this field began with a first-class Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree, focusing on Psychology, Sociology, and Counselling. As a 'level 4' British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) qualified therapeutic counsellor, I bring a wealth of knowledge and a person-cantered approach to my practice.
I firmly believe in the transformative power of the therapeutic relationship. My therapeutic style is integrative, drawing on various modalities, but at its core, it is person-centered. This means I place you, the client, at the heart of the process, respecting your unique experiences and empowering you to navigate your own journey of self-discovery and healing.
Having worked extensively with leading mental health charities, I've honed my skills in facilitating peer support groups, addressing mental illness and mental health issues on a one and group basis. Additionally, I've collaborated with LGBTQ+ organisations, providing specialised HIV counselling. My experience began working in a residential addiction rehabilitation centre, where I offered one-to-one counseling, group therapy, and psychoeducational workshops for a number of years with complex client groups.
Practice description
Welcome to a safe and inclusive space where you can embark on your journey toward healing and self-discovery. My practice is founded on empathy, respect, and a commitment to fostering a collaborative therapeutic relationship. Here, you can expect a confidential and non-judgmental environment where your unique experiences are honoured.
Whether you're grappling with addiction or facing common mental health challenges, my integrative approach allows for a tailored therapeutic experience. I draw on a range of therapeutic modalities to meet your specific needs, with a primary focus on the person-centered approach. Together, we'll explore your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours, fostering a deeper understanding and facilitating positive change.
I have experience working with diverse populations, including LGBTQ+ individuals, and understand the unique challenges they may face. My specialised HIV counselling reflects a commitment to providing culturally competent and affirming support.
The therapeutic journey is a collaborative one, and I am here to support you every step of the way. Whether through one-to-one sessions, group therapy, or psychoeducational workshops, we will work together to build resilience, enhance coping strategies, and promote overall well-being.
My first session
In our initial session, my priority is to create a comfortable and trusting space for you to share your concerns and goals. This session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other and discuss how we can work together to support your well-being.
I understand that taking the first step toward therapy can be a significant decision, and I commend your courage. This session allows us to explore your needs, expectations, and any specific concerns you may have.
I do not require clients to complete an assessment before the first session. Instead, our initial meeting is a collaborative exploration, laying the foundation for our therapeutic journey. I encourage open communication, and together, we can shape a path that aligns with your unique needs and goals.
If you're ready to embark on a journey of self-discovery and positive change, I look forward to walking alongside you.
