TESTIMONIALS
"When I came to see Emily I was in a dark place. I had tried therapy before and to be honest was sceptical that anything could help lift my mood and feel like myself again. The work with Emily was transformational: she was a fearless partner who gave me the courage to look at the deep trauma of my past. I always felt safe and held in our sessions and am incredibly grateful for the calm, caring wisdom she gave to me in our sessions. As our sessions have progressed, life feels lighter and I have found myself enjoying writing again."
Louise, screen-writer, LA
"A friend recommended I seek Emily's help when my marriage and young children were all feeling too much. I'd never had any therapy before: I didn't know if it could help and I was reluctant to spend money on myself - but my anxiety was bad - I needed to do something. Emily was easy to talk with. She understood me, where I was coming from. In very few sessions I got back on track and I feel it was more than worth it. I would highly recommend her."
Richard, Financial Advisor, London
"I looked for counselling following the loss of my baby for medical reasons. I didn't know what to expect and felt very vulnerable sharing about such a sensitive subject. After the first session with Emily I felt at ease, I felt listened to without any judgement: understood and cared for. She helped me identify with my feelings; helped me to come to terms with these difficult feelings and work out how to navigate to move forward through grief. I am very grateful for my sessions with Emily; and often find myself going back to her insightful words to help me through difficult times."
Ann, NHS client, London
" I can't thank Emily enough. It would not be an exaggeration to say that she saved my life. When we started working together I could hardly leave my house and now I am performing again. Emily was calm, unfazed, wise. I felt I could tell her anything and she would understand. "
Jessica, performing artist, New York

These are for you to tell me a bit about your situation and to get a sense of how I work and what it is like talking with me. If you would like to book one of these please e-mail me on emily@emilypaithorpetherapy.com.Our thinking brains are very good at creating stories and finding 'rational' explanations - but they can also get things wrong. This is why it is entirely possible to spend time in therapy creating stories about why you are suffering, and yet not be touching the real sources of your distress. People tell me: "I understand why I don't feel well, but I'm not feeling any better!"
I want the therapy I deliver to help my clients actually heal and sometimes Emotional Processing is the key. If my clients are interested, we can use techniques such as Integral Eye Movement Therapy - where I guide the client to recreate REM sleep eye movements - to encourage the client's brain to start processing emotion and moving it to the memory part of the brain (the hippocampus). Once it is there it may not be a good memory, but as a memory it won't be causing you problems in the present.
These techniques are gentle and client-led, and yet incredibly powerful at effecting healing. Using Emotional Processing techniques can often be like pushing the log which is blocking everything. I have seen them bring great relief to clients who had suffered with unprocessed emotion for years and I would encourage anyone who is interested to try them.
All my therapy is relational and client led.
