About me and my therapy practice

"Trust, empathy, communication and partnership are at the heart of my practice. I want to empower my clients to connect with their inner world so they can process their emotion, regain their energy and be restored to themselves again."

Emily Pailthorpe is an Integrative Psychotherapist, Emotional Processing Coach and world-class performing musician who helps her clients process emotion and find their optimum flow. Her pioneering approach has made her in demand internationally.

EMILY'S APPROACH:

Emily's kind, perceptive and non-judgemental presence, as well as her wealth of experience and knowledge, have made her invaluable to clients suffering with anxiety, past trauma and life's difficulties. She uses the latest research in neuroscience and theory-led techniques within a client-led therapeutic approach to deliver powerful, results-focused therapy which is transformational for clients. Clients experience deep healing of issues they have struggled with for years, many times even in one session.

For clients whose coping strategies have run out, when repressed experiences surface, emotional processing can be a vital and powerful tool. Additionally, the peak-performance side of Emily's practice will appeal to high-achieving and creative clients.

Practice description

Our thinking brains are very good at creating stories and finding 'rational' explanations - but they can also get things wrong. This is why it is entirely possible to spend time in therapy creating stories about why you are suffering, and yet not be touching the real sources of your distress. People tell me: "I understand why I don't feel well, but I'm not feeling any better!"

I want the therapy I deliver to help my clients actually heal and sometimes Emotional Processing is the key. If my clients are interested, we can use techniques such as Integral Eye Movement Therapy - where I guide the client to recreate REM sleep eye movements - to encourage the client's brain to start processing emotion and moving it to the memory part of the brain (the hippocampus). Once it is there it may not be a good memory, but as a memory it won't be causing you problems in the present.

These techniques are gentle and client-led, and yet incredibly powerful at effecting healing. Using Emotional Processing techniques can often be like pushing the log which is blocking everything. I have seen them bring great relief to clients who had suffered with unprocessed emotion for years and I would encourage anyone who is interested to try them.

All my therapy is relational and client led.
