About me and my therapy practice
Might it be that seeking counselling represents the ultimate form of self-care?
Hello and the warmest of welcomes to you.
You made it!
Those first steps in searching for help take a whole lot of strength and courage.
I am a qualified Person-Centred Therapist, with a BA (Hons) degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy. I offer face-to-face, telephone and online sessions.
Finding a therapist who feels a good fit for you is a necessity. Someone whom you can trust and share your whole self with can be a very daunting experience. It is important you feel comfortable and safe with that person. You'll be sharing a lot of yourself after all.
Some of us travel this journey of life without ever having need to question our purpose or existence. We endure heartache, suffering, shame, guilt, sadness, and anger amongst many emotions that can arise from life's challenges. These can knock us off balance and be very overwhelming.
For me, therapy helped me make sense of my past, be accepting of the present and hopeful for the future. It gave meaning to my life and allowed me to let go of what no longer serves me by breaking down all that emotional armour that over the years had slowly been building.
Therapy can help gain a better understanding of yourself, your behaviours and your emotions whilst increasing self-confidence, awareness and bringing more balance to your life.
My background includes working for more than twenty years within an adult social care setting with a diverse range of people. In addition to this, I have also worked as a trainer within a medical company, as well as in customer service.
I currently volunteer for a local bereavement counselling service which I have been for the last three years. During this time I have discovered a particular interest in working with grief and loss. In addition to this I provide regular mental health support to university students.
Practice description
I offer a friendly, caring, and confidential space, where our sessions will be at a pace best suited to you. This will allow us to explore together what's going on for you in a relaxed, safe, and accepting environment. I also welcome a presence of humour to the therapy room and believe that this helps facilitate warmth and connection.
My practice is centred around providing you with the opportunity to feel heard, valued and understood.
Your feelings matter, your experiences matter, YOU matter.
Life is like a road trip; you never know where you may end up. Some roads are bumpy, some are smooth. There will be dead ends, twists and turns, hills, and narrow streets and plenty of beautiful scenic routes to take. There will also be crossroads, and lanes that take you to dark woods, overgrown with hedges and weeds. There will be parts that are muddy and leave you stuck, and there are the majestic mountain roads that leave you breathless. Then there are the roads less travelled.
This journey of therapy is yours to make. Consider me as your passenger.
My first session
To find out if we can work together, I provide a no obligation 20-minute telephone call. This can be to address any questions you may have and to ensure that what I offer is right for you.
During our first session we will set aside some time to go through the contract together and discuss any concerns or questions you may have that may not have arisen in our initial telephone consultation.
This also gives you an opportunity to ensure that I am the right fit for you, and you are happy to continue our sessions together.
