About me and my therapy practice
Welcome to my Profile
I am an integrative psychotherapist/psychodramatist, which means I work using theories from several fields of psychotherapy including psychodynamic, person-centred, gestalt and transactional analysis theories. I am also a Couples Therapist.
I am registered with the UKCP , a member of BPA and a registered member with British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP)
My model of working is varied and flexible, based on the values of creativity and appropriate spontaneity, underpinned by psychodynamic, systemic and existentialist thinking.
Therapy is a tool to resolve the challenges in your life, to help you feel more confident and more in control, providing insight and showing you a path through the experiences that are part of being human. Life can put you in a lonely place, maybe too hard to cope with, complicated, challenging or confusing.
We go through periods of times when they feel vulnerable, anxious, stressed, depressed or just unhappy. Sometimes these are triggered by obvious causes, like a breakup in a relationship, job loss or a bereavement, while at other times the underlying causes seem opaque, especially when life appears to be fulfilling and generally good. Having a toolkit for repairs is essential.
At the heart of my approach to therapy is a belief that the answer to life’s dilemmas is not “out there” but within us. When we start to love and accept ourselves as we are, we can begin to feel more empathy for others, our relationships will improve, and we will find it easier to have the sort of life we want.
I am providing a safe and supportive non-judgmental space to look into the possible sources of feelings, behavioural patterns and core beliefs that might be the underlying causes of distress.
I can help you better understand yourself and your history, trauma and loss, overcome fears, improve your romantic and social relationships, practise new skills or prepare for the future.
I am looking forward to working with you!
Practice description
I strongly believe that the answer to life’s dilemmas is not ‘out there’ but within us. When we start to love and accept ourselves as we are, we can begin to feel more empathy for others, our relationships will improve, and we will find it easier to have the sort of life we want. I offer you the space for your story to be told, heard and understood in a confidential, non-judgmental safe space which facilitates exploration and promote insight and personal growth, where you can consider your options and make choices.
My earnest belief is that we each have the innate resources to meet our own needs however may need some guidance from a trained companion to realise our latent potential and make sense of our world. I am passionate about personal empowerment, self-responsibility/awareness and believe that these can be the keys to a more fulfilling and meaningful life.
We will pay particular attention to your thoughts and feelings taking into account your past experiences, current circumstances, and desires for the future. The aim is to tailor therapy around your individual needs to enable you to work through whatever is causing you suffering and distress and to prepare you to make the changes you want in your life.
Working creatively in therapy aims to finding ways to define and make sense of the emotions that we struggle to understand and express verbally. It offers a way to bring to the surface the emotions and experiences that are sometimes forgotten, but are still stored in the mind and body, and are affecting our present lives. Using creativity in the session is always negotiated with the client as it is not something that is right for all people and therefore there is always the option not to work in this way.
My first session
Psychotherapy involves commitment: of time, energy and money. Before we make this commitment, it is important to meet for an “assessment session”. During this session you will get a chance to get a sense of whether you wish to go further, and I can explore with you what you are struggling with and what kind of changes you are hoping for.
We can discuss whether to engage in a time-limited or short-term piece of work or whether to embark on an open-ended or long-term journey of psychotherapy.
Clients are welcome to come for a first assessment, at a reduced rate, to discuss what concerns bring them to therapy and how we might work together. They are then free to decide if they wish to proceed with therapy.
My aim is to support you make tangible changes in your way of being, in relation to yourself, others and your wider world. I will equip you with some skills to help you deal with negative thoughts and feelings, so that you can make changes and move forward in your life.
I have experience in a range of areas including: relationship issues, stress, anxiety, depression, social confidence, self-confidence, career and life change, feeling stuck and directionless, identity issues and/or negative self-image, sexuality, life changes, PTSD, trauma, abuse, sexual abuse, bereavement and loss, fertility, antenatal and postnatal difficulties, eating disorders, alcohol and drug abuse/dependence, borderline personality disorder, forensic, spirituality.
