Availability
I work face-to-face mostly, but can facilitate online sessions via Zoom if required. I work on a one-to-one with clients, but am also available for couples counselling.
My availabilty for clients is usually on a thursday or friday: on those days I work from 10am until the evening. At times of need when a client is unable to attend on one of these days, an evening appointment via Zoom on another day is possible.
About me and my therapy practice
My Approach
Life can be overwhelming and difficult at times and it can sometimes seem as though there is little hope in sight. When we feel unable to cope, talking about things is the first step towards moving forward and feeling better.
I offer a professional and confidential therapy service for adult clients, allowing you to explore your thoughts and feelings safely in an impartial environment, where you will be respectfully listened to, feel supported and not be judged in any way.
My role is not giving advice or problem-solving, but to accompany you on your journey. I'm there to help you to understand what is making you feel a certain way, to find your own solutions and to support you as you move forward.
This can be face-to-face at my premises in Preston or if you prefer to stay in the comfort of your own surroundings, online via Zoom or by telephone. I offer both counselling and psychotherapy and can do one-to-one work or work with couples.
I have an integrative approach, to therapy, using different approaches as required. I follow a trauma-informed model. I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy and am currently working towards accreditation. Historically I have been working in the field of mental health since 1984: I am a Registered Mental Nurse. My experience is with all aspects of mental health with specialisms in trauma and addiction counselling.
I have professional indemnity insurance and am a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), EMDR UK and registered with the Nursing & Midwifery Council UK (89i2564e).
Practice description
I practice in a garden office at my home in Preston, where it is quiet and peaceful. My sessions are client-led and I follow an integrated approach to therapy, using different approaches as needed. As a therapist I offer a safe and confidential space where you can discuss anything, without judgement or prejudice of any kind. I do not give advice but accompany you on your journey, as you find your way through the difficulties you are experiencing.
I have a therapy contract which my clients are invited to read and sign: this enables us the client and I to know what is expected of us both during our sessions.
My first session
If your initial contact with me is by email, I will reply and suggest a suitable time to call you. Once you've confirmed this time works for you, I will call you: we can have a chat and discuss what your needs are and whether I can help. Our first session can be arranged if the availability I have is suitable for you.
Our first session will be about why you are looking for therapy; what you want to achieve from the therapy, and agreeing how you and I will work together. We will also be setting expectations and starting to build trust between us. I will explain to you my approach, background and qualifications and the professional bodies I'm registered with.
