About me and my therapy practice

Welcome To Spiritwell.

My name is Maddy and I am a fully qualified and registered, therapeutic counsellor, based on the Derbyshire border.

Offering both short and long term counselling to adults and young people, from 11 years.

I also offer personal therapy to student counsellors, wishing to have this as part of their training.

I offer reasonably priced appointments that can either be face to face, over the phone or via video chat.

Please note that my reply to email enquires may initially go into your spam or junk folder!

Depending on which direction you are approaching from, you will find me located, 5 minutes away from Selston, 10 minutes from Sutton in Ashfield, 20 minutes from Mansfield, South Normanton, Alfreton and Hucknall and 25 minutes away from Ripley and Heanor.

My work with clients covers a variety of different areas.

I work with many clients affected by anxiety and help them in reducing their anxiety levels and managing any potential negative thoughts, panic attacks and OCD.

I also work with many clients who are autistic or have ADHD.

Some of the other main issues I work with include;

Low mood and depression. A lack of confidence, low self-esteem and relational issues. Bereavement, stress, anger management, self-harm, intrusive thoughts, self-criticism, self doubts and identity issues.

Alongside my private practice, I am also employed 2 days a week as a counsellor, mental health worker and social prescriber, for a charity which has a contract with the NHS.

As part of this role I work from GP practices seeing and supporting their patients presenting with mental health concerns.

So I work my private practice around my employment.

I am also involved with a young people's charity, for which I have worked with for over 14 years and as part of this role I support and counsel young people from the age of 11.

I understand how important it is to find the right therapist, so I always offer an optional, free, 30 minute telephone introduction.

Practice description

I aim to create a space where you can feel supported, feel calmer and can begin to understand yourself, your thought processes and your behaviours more fully.

I feel I work with my clients in a very relational way, bringing myself and my knowledge into the session, helping us to form a deep and collaborative therapeutic relationship.

The client is at the heart of my therapy and the therapy is client led, this allows clients to focus on, talk through and explore how they are feeling in that moment.

My role within this, is to support my clients in doing this and to gently challenge and explore with them where they are at and how they are feeling.

I consider myself to be a guest in your world, sharing your experiences of your world and helping you to make sense of them.

I am experienced in working with my clients to establish which tools and techniques and practices work best for them.

I work with clients who are experiencing many different issues, some of which include, anxiety, depression and low mood, confidence, self-esteem and relational issues, stress, self-harm, intrusive thoughts, self-criticism and identity issues.

I would also say that I work in a holistic and somewhat spiritual way with my clients too and I am experienced in incorporating mindfulness and meditation tools and techniques into my practice, where appropriate with clients.

On a personal note, I would say I am quite a spiritual person, I am a believer in energy, the law of attraction and I am reiki trained.

However, I appreciate that these areas won't interest everyone though!

As a therapist, I am very flexible with how I work with my clients, I believe the sessions are your sessions and it's your time and we can tailor the therapy to suit you and your preferences.

I always work with my clients in ways that they feel comfortable with and offer my clients a friendly, authentic, supportive and compassionate space from which we can work together to shape your life how you would like it to be.

My first session

I kindly ask for payment to be made in advance please.

At least 24 hours before your appointment.

Payment is by a bank transfer - Thank You!

I am aware of how expensive having therapy can be and wish to help as many people as possible.

I am also aware of the unfortunate position some people may find themselves in following the pandemic and now the cost of living crisis.

So for these reasons, I try to keep my fees as reasonable and as low as possible.

I always offer an optional, 30 minute, Telephone Introduction, which is free.

I then offer an Assessment Session;

1 hour and 30 minutes - £45

The Assessment Session is 30 minutes longer than usual, at no extra charge.

This is to ensure there is time for us to cover everything we need to.

To include fully assessing your needs and issues, discussing the counselling process in more detail, covering my client agreement, looking at any questions and making sure you are completely happy with everything.

All my clients are given an Assessment Session.

But it is up to people whether they would prefer to have an optional telephone introduction first or not?

Any subsequent counselling sessions are £45 per session.

Please Note;

I do have a Cancellation Policy.

I ask for a minimum of 48 hours notice to rearrange or cancel an appointment.

Unfortunately, due to the financial impact that last minute cancellations can have, I do have to charge the full amount for the session, if less than 48 hours notice is given.

Thank you very much for your understanding with this.

I am also passionate about the counselling profession and about ensuring that people who feel they need help and support can receive it.

I understand life can take over sometimes, robbing us of time, space and energy and through this we tend to lose ourselves and neglect ourselves and our needs.

Counselling can help to create some time and space for you, a space for you to relax and have an outlet for your emotions.
