About me and my therapy practice

I'm Michael Harris, a fully qualified therapist in Bristol (UK) governed by accredited counselling bodies.

I offer Bristol therapy and Bristol Counselling (and wider) to individuals, couples, groups and companies. My practice is online or telephone, across English-speaking time zones, at a schedule that works for you.

I help you find your Blazing Soul - balance and direction, clarity and focus, increased confidence and self-esteem, and improved mental, physical and emotional wealth. I invite you to consider working with me to set a clear direction for change.

Although I work with all genders, sexuality and race in most areas of emotional difficulty, As a bisexual man navigating Ethical non-Monogamy (ENM) and s3x Positivity, I identify with the Queer community, and so would be especially well-placed to explore these issues with you. I can also especially support Emergency Workers and Educators.

The investment in your wellbeing fee is £60 per session, or £90 for couples. Please contact me for group and corporate rates.

I invite you to consider working with me to set a clear direction for change. My website is www.bristoltherapy.org.uk

Practice description

I promise to hold a space that's non-judgemental, safe and that places your needs above mine. I take a Person-centred approach, but can introduce elements of CBT, Rewind, Gestalt and Psychodynamic where appropriate.

I work online with secure video conferencing. I can set up telephone counselling if you prefer. I will walk alongside you to explore what's been getting you down, but I don't believe in "diagnosing" you with a "disease". My experience and training tells me most of my clients are experiencing distress as a normal reaction to life events. In fact, all of us will meet the American Psychiatric Association's Diagnostic & Statistical Manual of Disorders at some point in our lives. So what's "normal"?

I will not just sit there and nod or mirror back... a person centred approach should also encompass gentle challenge and notice what's going on in the therapy session. You are the expert on you.

My first session

Together, we will come up with a flexible case formulation, using your feelings and life history to explore why you are behaving the way you are. This is different to a clinician with a clipboard diagnosing what "disease" they think you have. The power of therapy is to bring awareness to who you are.
