About me and my therapy practice
Hi
I’m a genuine, warm person who can provide you with a calm and safe environment to explore whatever is going on for you - whether it's in your past, present, or future.
My aim is to support you and help you find the confidence and resources to understand and manage life's challenges. To help you to be kinder to yourself and to be your biggest supporter rather than your harshest critic.
The focus of our work will depend on you and your needs. Our work together will be collaborative, I'll be open and honest with you and I'll be guided by what feels right to you. We will work at your pace.
I have experience working with a range of issues, and as well as my private work I work as a counsellor in the NHS supporting healthcare staff.
I am also a Development and Career Coach with interest in supporting people struggling with work issues, or trying to maintain a work-life balance.
Practice description
I’m an integrative counsellor, which means I draw on insights and techniques from a number of approaches. This allows me to tailor my work and style to meet your unique needs and preferences. I've outlined a few of these below:
Person-centred therapy is my core model and means I will work to create a supportive and non-judgemental environment, listening and understanding your experiences from your point of view. I believe that this way of working helps facilitate personal growth and self-discovery, based on your needs and perspectives.
Compassion focused therapy. If you have a strong critical voice, and are very tough on yourself we will work to increase your self-compassion. The aim of this work will be to practice being kind to yourself, being your biggest supporter rather than your harshest critic.
Psychodynamic. We might explore past experiences and relational patterns to help you gain insight and understanding about unconscious thoughts, feelings and behaviours. This fosters a deeper understanding of how past events or experiences may be impacting on your present.
Gestalt. This involves working in your present, looking at what your immediate experiences are. We may identify patterns and explore whether these are helpful to you, or keeping you stuck in a certain way of feeling, thinking and behaving.
CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy). Our work may involve identifying and helping to change negative thought patterns and behaviours. We may use practical strategies to develop more effective ways of coping and increase positive mental well-being.
I believe that to give ourselves the best chance in life - especially during challenging times - we need to look after our minds and our bodies. So our work is likely to involve exploring mindfulness and relaxation techniques, as well as considering diet and exercise.
My first session
Our sessions will be held either in person, online or on the phone.
We will have an initial conversation on the phone and if we agree to work together I'll recommend we do that for five to six sessions before we review how the work is progressing and where you want to go from there.
