About me and my therapy practice
I am an experienced, empathic and warm psychodynamic counsellor / psychotherapist and I care deeply about the mental health of my clients. Life can sometimes feel overwhelming or distressing and it can be difficult to manage challenges or see a way to move forward, which can impact our overall wellbeing. We may feel that we cannot burden family and friends and so sit with difficult emotions and remain stuck. I approach therapy with hope and optimism within a safe, non-judgemental and confidential space to support you in feeling heard, understood and validated.
In my practice, I will work alongside you in a relational way to help you navigate your way through difficult feelings, thoughts, behaviours and experiences, at your own pace, to help you find the strength and resilience to cope better in healthier ways. Whether you are experiencing depression, anxiety, anger, stress, low self-esteem, relationship problems or breakdowns, work-related issues, a bereavement, or have suffered abuse or trauma, I can help with whatever you choose to bring.
I am a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), which means I work in accordance with their Code of Ethics and Standards of Good Practice. I attend regular supervision and am committed to ongoing professional development. As well as having a private practice I have been working for a counselling charity for a number of years and I have experience in trauma related work with domestic violence and sexual abuse survivors.
Practice description
It is important to find a therapist who you feel comfortable with and who you want to be beside you on your counselling journey. As a Psychodynamic Counsellor & Psychotherapist my roots lie in linking past experiences to present difficulties that may have started in your early childhood years but are often an accumulation of unprocessed events, conflicts and experiences that have been carried on with you because they are unconcious. Painful feelings, troubled relationships and repeated patterns of behaviour will often have their roots in the past and can be difficult to see the connections and understand how they can impact our lives today.
Everyone’s experience is unique and I aim to work together with you to explore and reflect on what is happening or has happened in your life. Together we can think about and identify what is really going on and why and help you find a resolution. This will enable you to have a better understanding of yourself, gain new insights and different perspectives so you can make sense of them. I believe building a strong therapeutic relationship based on trust between counsellor-client is central to the outcome of this type of talking therapy to give you the freedom, autonomy and empowerment to move towards positive, lasting and meaningful changes you want in your life.
I offer 50-minute sessions on a weekly basis at the same time on the same day and can be open-ended, time-limited or short-term depending on your needs. I work on a one-to-one basis with adults aged 18 years and above.
My first session
I offer an initial free 15-20 minute no-obligation telephone call which provides an opportunity for you to tell me what has brought you to therapy at this time, what you are hoping to achieve and to raise any questions you may have about how I work to determine if I am the right therapist for you.
If you decide you would like to explore things further, we can arrange an initial assessment session where we can meet, and this would give us the chance to experience how it might feel to work together and for me to find out more about you and your situation better. We can then decide how best to proceed if that is what you choose. The initial assessment is payable in advance and lasts 1 hour, costing £65.
