About me and my therapy practice
I am a qualified integrative counsellor and psychotherapist. I have worked in a variety of settings, including private mental health services, charitable organisations, and educational institutions. This broad range of experience has allowed me to support people through a wide spectrum of emotional difficulties.
Before training as a psychotherapist, I spent 12 years working as a teacher in the UK and the Middle East. This gave me a deep understanding of the pressures that demanding work environments can place on both our professional and personal lives. I’ve had the privilege of working with people from many different walks of life, which has enriched my perspective and ability to relate to the diverse challenges people face.
Finding the right therapist can feel like a daunting journey, and I truly understand how overwhelming it can be to take that first step. Everyone's experience with therapy is unique—whether you're seeking support for a specific challenge, feeling a bit "stuck," or struggling with a sense of low mood that's hard to explain. Wherever you are, I seek to meet you there with compassion and openness. Together, we will work to understand what has brought you to therapy and explore what you hope to gain from your therapy experience.
Practice description
I draw from a range of therapeutic approaches to ensure that your therapy experience is tailored to meet your unique needs, goals, and preferences. My practice is guided by psychodynamic and humanistic principles, which means that we may explore how past experiences are shaping your present thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. By combining this with an understanding of the challenges you’re facing right now, we can work together to build a deeper understanding of what might be keeping you stuck and how we can create change.
At the heart of my approach is the belief that the relationship we build together is the cornerstone of effective therapy. It’s within a safe and trusting connection that real, transformational change can occur. From the very beginning, and throughout our time together, I prioritise your emotional and physical safety. I’m mindful of the profound impact that distressing or traumatic experiences can have on both our minds and bodies. I’m committed to offering a safe, non-judgmental space where you can feel heard, understood and supported to explore your thoughts and feelings at a pace which feels comfortable for you.
I’m often asked by clients what ‘resources’ they can expect to gain from therapy. Drawing from both my personal and professional experiences, I believe one of the most powerful resources therapy can offer is an increased sense of self-awareness and insight. With this, there’s the potential for deep personal growth, healing, and lasting change. Ultimately, my goal is to support you in developing the tools and understanding needed to create meaningful, long-term transformation in your life.
My first session
Initial Contact
If you're considering the possibility of working together, I’d be happy to hear from you. You can reach out via email at hello@lydiaromainetherapy.com or by phone/text at 07572953607. I aim to respond within 48 hours, and I’ll suggest a time for a brief, 20-minute phone conversation. This call is free of charge and provides an opportunity for us to get to know each other a little better. It’s a space where you can ask any questions you may have and share what has brought you to therapy. I can also explain a bit more about how I work. Together, we can explore whether we might be a good fit to work together moving forward.
Booking a Session
Each therapy session lasts 50 minutes, and I typically work with clients on a weekly basis, scheduling a regular time that suits both of us.
There’s no rush to make any decisions during our initial phone call. I completely understand that choosing the right therapist is an important decision, and it may help to take some time to reflect after our conversation. If, however, we both feel that we’re a good fit, we can arrange our first session then and there.
In our first 50-minute session, we’ll have the chance to explore your reasons for seeking therapy in more depth. We can discuss how best we can work together to support you, and both of us can take time to reflect on whether continuing together feels right. If, for any reason, you choose not to schedule additional sessions, that’s absolutely okay—there’s no obligation, and it’s important that you feel confident in your decision. My priority is that you feel comfortable and supported every step of the way.
