About me and my therapy practice
Hello, I'm Willow (she/they), an integrative counsellor who works with adults for both short and long term counselling.
I am open minded, empathetic, non-judgmental and curious about your experience and truth. Therapy gives you a safe space, without judgment, to help you explore your thoughts and feelings. It's my aim to support you to feel accepted, valued and important. I work within a trauma-informed, un-shaming understanding of what it means to be a human.
Every person is different, we're all built up of complex life experiences and perspectives. Integrative means that I work holistically using different therapeutic practice, technique and understandings of the human experience based upon your needs at the time. I don't believe there is one single approach that will be effective for all clients in all situations.
Some people begin counselling as they feel like they need a space to talk openly, some people are more objective/goal drive, sometimes the journey is both of those things together. I'm here to help you discover what makes most sense to you and support you throughout that process.
Practice description
I'm committed to working inclusively, my work is guided by the BACP ethical guidelines and my work and training within Gender, Sex and Relationship Diversity.
I'm professionally trained in person centered theory, psychodynamic theory and cognitive behavioural therapy, as well as GSRD (gender, sex and relationship diversity) - I use this knowledge to personalise my approach client-to-client.
I have worked with clients for a number of years in different settings, in person supporting mental health referrals through the NHS, within specialised sexual abuse and rape crisis services and online with clients across the world.
My first session
I offer a discounted first session. It is an opportunity for us to look at how it might be to work together. This will include the logistics of sessions, your aims and expectations and the boundaries of our work.
It can be intimidating to attend a first therapy session, you don't have to share everything you're concerned about, just enough so we can collaboratively discuss whether we feel we can work together to explore whatever is going on for you.
I am able to work gently or in a more directive way. You will lead in choosing how we work together, this might change as you move through therapy.
