About me and my therapy practice
Do you feel that your life has been turned upside down following a bereavement or some other loss, or perhaps you just feel that you have lost your way in life? If this is you then I can work with you to navigate a way through the emotional overwhelm to help make sense of your world.
Since your loss have you noticed a change in your mood, difficulty sleeping and possibly struggling in your relationships with others? These are all normal emotions at such a time, but you may feel stuck and don't seem to be able to move forward. That's where I can help you.
I specialise in working with those who have suffered a loss. This might be through the loss of a person or beloved pet but can also include what I call non-bereavement loss - such as that experienced when a relationship ends, children leave home or through retirement and redundancy. Other examples of non-bereavement loss include:
- Loss of identity.
- Loss of confidence.
- Loss of some aspect of our physical self such as fertility, eyesight
or mobility.
- Loss of property or a business.
My job is to work with you to help untangle the emotional and physical problems you are experiencing and get you to a place where you have a better relationship with yourself, others and the world around you. In a nutshell: to feel more at ease.
Practice description
I work in what is called the person-centred approach, with its origins in humanistic psychology. It is based on the view that given the right conditions everyone has the ability for personal growth and change. I like its gentle and effective way of assisting clients to feel liberated and gain a sense of agency in their lives.
As a qualified integrative therapist I may also use therapeutic techniques from other approaches, tailoring all interventions according to your needs.
After a long career in the NHS working as an advanced nurse specialist I now work exclusively as a psychotherapist/counsellor with some of my time in the charitable sector.
Professional Qualifications and Memberships.
Post Graduate Diploma - Integrative Counselling & Psychotherapy (Leeds Beckett University)
Member of The British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)
My first session
Your first step is to book a free 20-minute introductory call. Please go to the contacts page here or via my website leaving your name, telephone and email with the best time to contact you. I will then arrange a time for us to meet either by video-call or telephone.
This will give us a chance to get to know each other, to look at what you are struggling with and what you want to achieve from counselling. I can answer any questions you may have. At this point you can either decide to book a first appointment straight away or you can take more time to think about it and get back to me when you feel ready.
I work both face to face and online via video-call or telephone.
Fees:
£100 for a one to one appointment.
£85 for online video or telephone appointments.
