About me and my therapy practice

I am a psychodynamic, integrative  psychotherapist with Transactional Analysis (TA) as my core model.

I work with adults in West Cumbria.

As with all integrative therapists, the client is the expert in their own life and with this in mind I integrate multiple models and modalities into a plan, that prioritizes their experience. The psychodynamic approach means that the influence of the past, particularly early experience, in shaping a client's current reality is also considered. TA is a practical way to apply both these things in a way that places both the therapeutic relationship and the individual drive for growth and creativity at the centre of the process. This creates a unique service for each person with relationship at the heart.

I am a registered member of the BACP, the UKCP, DBS cleared, ICO registered, insured and have regular 1:1 supervision.

Practice description

Clients usually begin with an initial half hour conversation to see if we are a 'good fit' for one another, this is followed by weekly one-hour sessions for as many sessions as the work requires. This is agreed at the start of therapy and will evolve as the work and the relationship develop.

I offer both in person and on-line sessions in a number of locations in South West Cumbria.

A minimum of 48 hours' notice is required to cancel a session, otherwise the full session fee is payable unless due to an emergency. Payment is easy via bank transfer on the morning of the session.

My first session

We will usually begin with a half hour assessment to outline the problem we are going to work on, and some broader questions about your well being and family history. This will happen as part of a conversation and form filling is kept to a minimum. It will include an assessment of risk. I normally then suggest we both take a week to consider if we are a good fit before commencing work. We will then sign an administrative contract outlining the business side of the working relationship before commencing our time together.

Everybody is different and the focus of the first session is as an opportunity for us to begin to get to know each other, for me to learn what you want out of therapy, and for me to get an initial impression of what may work best for you.
