About me and my therapy practice

I understand that reaching out to talk to someone can be daunting - it takes courage, but is the first step in making a positive change for your well-being. With this in mind, I offer my clients an empathic and inclusive attitude unconditionally, allowing you to make sense of the things you find difficult or distressing.

I’m aware there may be many reasons why you are looking into counselling - simply being human comes with a variety of challenges that we all may face. You may be struggling with low self-esteem or confidence, feeling unmotivated or perhaps you’re finding negative thoughts upsetting - these are some of the issues that I work with. They can arise through recent life events, but also be a product of our past or experiences of trauma.

Challenges can come with our jobs, our social interactions or with family issues. You may be experiencing feelings of depression, anxiety, stress or feeling confused and overwhelmed. I know how hard it can be to try and cope with these on your own - counselling can provide a space to talk through these feelings and make sense of them. Loneliness or feelings of isolation can sometimes make us feel that we are not worthy of seeking help - but I can assure you we all are, and finding someone to talk to is the first step.

As an integrative counsellor and therapist I have worked with a wide range of issues and clients. Tailoring each session to the client, I call upon different therapeutic models including person-centred, existential, cognitive and psychodynamic. The length of therapy can vary depending on the type of issues raised and what comes up during each session. Some range between 6-12 sessions, while others can be more long term - 6 months to 1+ years.

I always work with the clients best interests in mind, and will provide a safe, welcoming space to allow you the freedom to explore what you find troubling. Ultimately, I aim to support and empower you to help you find meaning and a path to positive change.

Practice description

I qualified with distinction from Inter-Psyche Training Institute in Dartford, one of the leading NHS psychotherapy training centres. The qualification I hold is at degree level 6. I also hold individual qualifications in Counselling Skills, Trauma Awareness and Safeguarding for Children, as well as being DBS checked. I am a full member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy), whose ethical framework I abide by.

Sessions are 50 minutes long and usually every week. We can start by discussing what is currently troubling you, what you’d like to get out of therapy or any goals you may have. I usually arrange a 20 minute call at first, to get to know a bit more about how you’re feeling and give you an opportunity to ask me any questions.

My first session

I appreciate you may feel anxious about starting therapy, the first session can seem daunting. You may worry you don’t know what to say or how to ‘do therapy’ - this is completely normal. We can start by exploring what brought you to therapy in the first place and then gradually explore what else comes up for you, at a pace that feels comfortable. I will explain the confidentiality of our sessions and any other practicalities that you may need to know. We can agree on a regular time to meet, with the understanding that we can always adjust it in the future if needed.

As we start the therapy journey together, remember - there is no wrong way to do it - just bring yourself.
