About me and my therapy practice
Therapy is the journey towards really coming to know ourselves. Like any journey, this can be bumpy and uncomfortable at times but ultimately leads us to a new place.
Hello. My name is Gemma and I work as an integrative therapist in North London. Life in this world can be fast-paced and demanding and I offer a warm, confidential and open-minded space to help us to slow down and work through the challenges we are experiencing, whatever these may be.
In my work so far I have worked with; Abuse, Anxiety, Bereavement, Child related issues, Cultural issues, Depression, Family issues, Identity issues, Infertility, Loss, Post-traumatic stress, Racial Identity and the impact of racism, Relationships, Self-esteem, Self-harm, Sexuality, Stress, Trauma, Women's issues and Work related issues.
I am committed to working within a culturally and socially sensitive framework and welcome clients from all identities, backgrounds, religions, cultures, sexualities and genders. I welcome the exploration of wider-social issues into the room and the way that they may be impacting a client's life.
Practice description
As an integrative therapist, I draw on several theoretical models in psychotherapy. This allows me to really honour the fact that I believe different things work for different people and that there is no such thing as "one size fits all" in therapy.
I allow humanistic, psychodynamic, relational and somatic ways of working to inform me. This could mean that we explore the impact of experiences in your past and how they may impact you in the present. It may mean that we tune into our bodies and listen to what they may be telling us. Perhaps we will explore how we relate to each other and what awareness this might bring to how we relate to others outside of the therapy room. However it is that we come to work together, the therapeutic relationship can offer a way of looking at how we are in the world and explore how we might like to evolve and grow.
Asking for help can be a difficult process for anyone and with the stigma attached to mental health, coming to therapy can feel challenging. Like a lot of challenging things, it can also be an experience that offers growth, support and transformation and I look forward to working with you.
My first session
I offer an initial free phone conversation of 15 minutes in order for us to begin to get to know each other and for you to be able to share briefly what it is that is bringing you to therapy, ask any questions you may have and also for me to think about how I may be able to support you.
If you feel, following this conversation, that you would like to explore therapy together we will book an initial assessment session in which we will further explore what brings you to therapy, consider what it is you would like to get out of the space and also for you to get a feeling of how it is that I work. This session is offered at half my usual rate.
If we decide to work together we will then commit to a weekly session of 50 minutes.
I really understand how difficult it can feel to reach out for help and with that in mind I warmly welcome hearing from you.
