About me and my therapy practice

If you're new to counselling, it can feel daunting to start. However, I am here to help you arrange your thoughts and offer a space to explore your feelings.

I'm a BACP registered counsellor and psychotherapist. I began my journey in mental health five years ago when I volunteered for Samaritans. A year later, when I experienced a series of panic attacks, I decided to reassess my direction and pursue a career in therapy. Since then, I have been a counsellor in higher education settings and the charitable sector (Mind & family services).

I am queer affirming and have experience exploring themes of sexuality, having worked closely with the LGBTQIA+ community and gay men in sexual health charities.

Practice description

The ethos behind my practice is that you, as the client, are in charge of direction. We may establish a general goal for therapy together, but week by week, the sessions are yours - I won't lead or dictate. I liken my practice to helping you arrange a puzzle. If you lay down the pieces, we work together to arrange them.

Some people wish to focus on strength and strategies, which can be useful for anxiety. I have found this particularly true in my work, and especially with male clients.

I am person-centred, and very much lean into the nature of counselling as talking therapy. If agreed, we can work on challenging you and your thought patterns with cognitive behavioral techniques, or searching for practical solutions. The past affects us, but whether we go there or not is up to you.

My first session

I offer a free ten minute phone call to discuss your needs and expectations from therapy.

The first 50 minute session will be about getting to know your story and also offering you the opportunity to ask me any questions about how I work.

Ahead of the session, I will send you some forms to complete, which are important for establishing our working parameters and explain how I store your information.
