About me and my therapy practice
Hi. I’m Lisa and I’m hoping you might like me to be your counsellor. If you like a counsellor who considers the relationship between us the most important thing about therapy, if you like someone who is able to laugh with you, call you out and hold your emotions no matter how big they are, then I might be a good fit for you. People who I have worked with describe me as kind, compassionate, honest and challenging.
The issues that I mostly work with are sexual trauma and family relational issues. If you are an adult struggling to recover from your childhood, or someone who finds being around family hard, if you want to take a closer look at how your childhood is impacting your relationships or behaviour now, then please get in touch. I have lots of experience working with children in care, care leavers, adopted individuals and their families. I have good knowledge of fostering and the social care system. As part of my training, I worked with in a rape crisis service and still often work with individuals recovering from sexual violence, domestic abuse and trauma. I help clients to explore their sexual mistreatment at a pace that is comfortable for them, I support clients to move past the pain and shame and get back to feeling more like themselves.
Prior to becoming a counsellor, I worked in children’s services for over 10 years. Throughout this time, I have worked with many different communities and families. I have worked with those experiencing difficult family relationships, anxiety, depression and adverse childhood experiences. This has helped me to be trauma informed and non-judgemental. I am also trained as a therapeutic life story worker, meaning that I have tools to help explore the past and how it is impacting your day-to-day life.
Practice description
I am qualified in integrative therapeutic counselling. What this means for you, as my client is that I will use methods from counselling theories, in my work with you. Experience has taught me that different people need different tools, resources and approaches and I am able to be adaptable.
I set up Mosaic Counselling with the idea of helping people to accept all pieces of themselves and bringing those pieces together to create something uniquely beautiful. I believe that every experience that we’ve had and every person in our lives has influenced who we are, and I believe that by exploring these influences we can reunite with our true selves and have a chance to choose who we are becoming.
My first session
An initial session with me is charged at £25. This session is all about getting to know one another and mutually deciding whether we would be a good fit to work together. I will do this by running through an assessment with you, and I encourage you to do this by asking any questions you may have for me. You need to feel confident that you are choosing the right therapist for your needs.
