About me and my therapy practice
Based in central Bath I am a BACP registered Humanistic and Integrative counsellor working with adults of all ages. My approach is relational and person centred, which means I work in collaboration with you and in a way that best suits your needs and respects your pace and depth of work.
Life can throw us challenges and they can feel overwhelming and create a sense of being stuck or at a loss. I have experience of working with a range of emotional experiences and helping clients to find clarity, move forward and regain a sense of balance.
For me, counselling is about offering you a welcoming and trustworthy space to pause, to reflect and to explore what is going on for you right now. There are no rights or wrongs in counselling. It is a space where you can tell your own story in your own words and expect to be heard with compassion, honesty and respect.
I will offer you a warm welcome from the outset and endeavour to build a strong working relationship between the two of us, which I hope, will enable you to feel you can speak openly and with honesty. My role is to actively listen and support you in exploring and developing a greater insight and understanding of yourself, what maybe going on for you right now and enable you to start to find new ways of being so to make lasting change.
Practice description
My training and way of working is rooted in both the Humanistic and Integrative approaches to counselling. Humanistic counselling is rooted in the belief that we are all unique individuals and given the right conditions, have the ability to find our own answers to what may be troubling us. The Integrative element enables us to be flexible in the way we work together and draw from a range of theories and interventions that best meet your needs.
I offer in-person and on-line counselling and welcome people from all backgrounds, cultures and circumstances looking for either short, time limited counselling or a more open, longer term approach.
I have experience of working with a broad range of issues, including those around relationships, identity, family life, work, anxiety, stress, burn out, low mood, shame, past trauma, bereavement, life transitions and loss. I have a particular interest in how our past experiences shape and inform our present day selves and ways of relating.
I have experience of working with neurodivergent clients of all ages and I'm acutely aware of how being neurodivergent in a world designed for neurotypical brains can impact on a person throughout their life.
Alongside my work in Private Practice, I also work with Off the Record, a charity providing advocacy, support and counselling to children and young adults in the Bath and NE Somerset area. Through this role I have worked alongside local school and university welfare teams and have particular experience of working with young adults in academic settings. Throughout the pandemic I also provided counselling support to those experiencing loss through my role with Cruse Bereavement Care.
My first session
An important aspect of successful counselling is the therapeutic relationship between client and therapist - so it is important you find the right counsellor for you. If you decide to get in touch, I will suggest we arrange an initial free of charge short phone or video call to chat through what has brought you here and for us both to gain a sense of whether we feel we will work well together.
Following on from this, you can then decide if you would like to arrange a first session.
You can either contact me via the BACP Contact page or directly by email - lottereadcounselling@gmail.com or by phone/text 07888 368 012.
