About me and my therapy practice
I am an integrative counsellor with a client-centred focus. This means I will always work with you to get the most out of your therapeutic journey, employing different counselling theories and techniques while ensuring that you are in control and your needs are at the forefront. When starting out we would explore what brings you to counselling, what feelings and thoughts you wish to address in our time together. Once we have established this, we can look to incorporate techniques and skills that can be effective for your specific needs.
As someone who has experience of the difficulties faced with having marginalised identities (religious, sexuality, disability) and how these identities can overlap and conflict, I have the empathy and skills to help you if you are struggling with these concerns. We can work collaboratively to find links between seemingly difficult to grasp challenges you are facing, and find ways to forge a clear path forward.
Seeking counselling support can be daunting, and I will always ensure to work with you to make sure that our sessions are a comfortable and safe place for you to express and explore whatever you need to to see the progress you are aiming for. Part of my person-centred approach is that I will always try to bring my genuine self to the counselling space, so that you feel comfortable doing the same.
Practice description
I offer new clients a half-price first session to allow us to get to know each other somewhat. This introductory session also allows you to take some time to discuss key facts like support networks you already might have, and the concerns that you would like to work on.
After the introductory call, I will send any information that you might need including the counselling contract so that you can weigh things up before committing to further sessions.
Sessions typically are 50 minutes weekly. We can discuss other options such as fortnightly, however as a rule the best results come from weekly sessions on a consistent basis.
My first session
Should you wish to move forward following the introductory session, we can then work to figure out the trajectory of our time together. What have you come to counselling to work on, and what does progress look like to you? We will go through the counselling contract to make sure that you are happy with everything before progressing any further.
