About me and my therapy practice
We all encounter times in our lives where we may feel anxious, sad, angry, or stuck in a pattern of unhelpful behaviour. This may impact our day to day lives, our relationship with ourselves and our relationship with others.
We may know that something has to change, but not be entirely sure how to move forward. We may need some help.
As a starting point, the psychodynamic approach proposes that we all have an inner world. This world is made up of thoughts, feelings, memories and beliefs. Many of these can come from our past experiences. These past experiences have a major influence on how we think and behave in our lives today.
Part of our inner world is conscious. This means that we may know about and have access to it. A large part, however, is unconscious, meaning that we cannot access it quite so easily.
Psychodynamic counselling allows us, together, to visit your past in a gentle manner at your own pace. Such a process can allow parts of your inner world which may be unconscious into your awareness. From here, you will begin to notice how some of these thoughts and behaviours can be affecting your life in the here and now.
This increased self awareness can allow you to begin to make the changes you are currently seeking in your life.
Practice description
I work from my home in the West End of Glasgow or if online therapy is preferred via a secure platform.
Sessions typically take place on a weekly basis at the same time each week. Sessions last 50 minutes.
Each session will be taken in a gentle manner at a pace you are comfortable with. This is your space and you decide what you want to bring.
My first session
This is an opportunity for us to discuss your reasons for seeking therapy. We will discuss a little about how I work and what your expectations are.
The first session is a little different in that I may ask more questions than I normally would. This is to gather more of a picture as we begin to think about our work together.
