About me and my therapy practice

My name is Dorota and I want to invite you to my counselling journey. I am well qualified Counsellor and Therapist, Registered Member of British Association for Counsellors and Psychotherapists (MBACP 401273), Member of Royal College of Occupational Therapists (RCOT Membership BT00874584), who utilises superior communication skills to build meaningful, trusting relationship that exceed client demands. I am a responsible Professional driven to help others overcome personal obstacles, passionate about delivering outstanding quality and service. I offer 15 years of experience in different education, social care, healthcare and mental health settings with history of recognition for performance.

Each of us can at some point face distress, trauma, various difficulties or complex situations. Complications can arise at any stage. People can easily struggle with their mental health, so it is important to have someone to just be present, to talk to, to support you and to be listened to.

Having the ability to speak Polish and Russian, I would also like to provide a multi-cultural supportive service to clients from Eastern European countries. I met lots of people who, when unwell, were not able to communicate their feelings and needs in English. Even those, who could speak English well, preferred to communicate in their native language as it was a language of their emotions and feelings and they found it easier to express themselves and find the underlying cause of the problem in the native language.

I want you to remember, that counselling is not just for people in crisis. It can be used in crisis, but it can also be used to maintain the wellness.

Practice description

I am an integrative counsellor which means that I offer tailored approach to examine each client’s issues from a holistic perspective and take into account the different components that combine to make up psychological wellbeing. I have been providing counselling to clients dealing with addictions, sexual and domestic abuse, poverty, anger, fear, stress and anxiety, facing LGBT+ challenges, trauma and post traumatic disorders, eating disorders, depression, suicidal ideations, bereavement, being in need of educational, motivational and emotional support. I also have specific knowledge of working with children and adolescents experiencing childhood sexual abuse and family violence.

Counselling is a talking therapy between counsellor and client. People come for counselling for different reasons. However sometimes it is hard to label the problem and counselling is being used to help identify the issue. It provides a safe, neutral and confidential environment where clients can explore their issues and can work with a counsellor towards finding their own solutions or coping strategies.

I put the clients needs and wants at the centre of everything I do in therapy so we will work together to gain insight and awareness into your life. I will be led by you and we will go at a pace that is right for you. I will offer you professional and skilled support in order to work with whatever comes up. We will build therapeutic relationship that will help you to feel safe, listened to and understood in order for you to be able to address whatever has brought you into therapy. I will give you my warm, patient and empathetic approach and offer a relaxed and calm environment to allow you to feel comfortable and safe.

I offer: in-room therapy sessions, online counselling, walking and talking in a relaxed and safe environment and other flexible ways to work together.

My first session

The first session will be relaxed and laid back where we will spend some time getting to know each other a little bit. I will share some information about how I work and what you can expect from our sessions. I will also go through some practicalities which will include talking through our working agreement. You will be able to ask any questions that you might have. There will be time for you to talk about your own situation and what brought you to seek some support. You can share as much or as little as you feel comfortable with as we will always work at your pace. You might want to share if you have any specific aims and goals and it is also fine if you do not have any at that point. There is no obligation to carry on working with me following the initial session and you can have as long as you need to think about what is right for you moving forward.

Free initial consultation

I offer a free 30 minute introductory chat so we can get to know each other other a little better before we embark on your counselling journey. This consultation is non-committal and you will not be pressured to continue counselling if you choose not to. You need to feel comfortable and find the right therapist for you to work with.
