About me and my therapy practice
Hello, my name is Rachel Musson. I am a qualified registered counsellor.
Therapy offers you the space to work through difficult feelings, maybe short-term about a specific event, or longer-term getting to know yourself better to understand where patterns of thought and behaviour might come from, and how you can begin to shape these to derive more satisfaction and enjoyment from life.
I have been trained in a relational, humanistic, gestalt approach: I see therapy as a dialogue between you, the client, and me the therapist. We work together to create an approach to therapy that works with and for you. Often you will speak and I will listen, sometimes I will ask questions and offer observations, and on occasions I might suggest a creative activity or experiment that might help you see a situation from a different perspective.
I have worked with clients of all ages and backgrounds, and I am committed to an inclusive and anti-oppressive practice. I understand that as a client you may want to know a little about the experience I bring to the therapeutic space. As well as private practice, I work for an NHS staff counselling service, and have previously offered therapy in placements such as an alcohol and drug rehabilitation service and arts-based higher education institutes. I have a special interest in working with people in the creative industries with people facing the challenges of being either childless and childfree, and my previous experience in education means I have particular insight into the challenges of parents who are raising children with special educational needs. Prior to working as a therapist I worked in the arts and in education, and hold qualifications in music, education and autism.
Qualifications include: Diploma in Relational Counselling (level 6), PGDip in Gestalt Therapy Theory, approaching the end of a Gestalt psychotherapy (level 7) training.
Practice description
I work online, usually on the Zoom platform. My fees are £50 per 50 minute session. Sessions usually take place weekly, and are usually held at the same time each week. If you require a more flexible contract, for example if you work shifts, then we can speak to find out if I can offer an arrangement that will suit you.
My first session
I offer an initial online or phone conversation for up to 30 minutes free of charge.
After that I suggest up to two assessment sessions. The normal fee applies for these. During these sessions we will go through my contract, and I will want to know a bit more about your background and experiences as well as more about what is bringing you to therapy at this current time.
We will then agree to continue for short or longer term therapy, depending on what we decide after our first one or two sessions. Should either of us feel we are not a good match, I may be able to suggest other therapists you could approach.
