About me and my therapy practice

Hello, I’m Matt. I am a psychotherapeutic counsellor, with a background in supporting adults and young people through physical and psychological challenges. I have worked as a mentor with young adults excluded from mainstream education, and as a grief companion attached to a hospice.

I work relationally, which means I place great emphasis on the value in building our relationship, as well as the way that other relationships function in your life. We work in the here and now, with some attention to how your past might be impacting you currently.

I am trained in transpersonal psychology, which means my approach to therapy is holistic. Living is an embodied experience, it is mind and body and I work with the whole being. I believe that we have an innate desire to go beyond known limitations.

I am a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and follow the Ethical Framework of the BACP that protects both clients and therapists.

Practice description

What might lead you to therapy?

I think that being human is a mysterious, unsettling and joyous business, and that most of us can benefit from personal therapy at some point. There are times when your voice and spirit needs to be heard in a safe and supportive place.

You may be experiencing a particularly tough period in your life, where your relationships are unsatisfying and you feel unloved, with a sense of pain and isolation and a longing for more. You may feel a deep grief or sense of loss, without a clear idea about its origin. In our work together, I offer you a committed, non-judgmental relationship, a safe space for us to explore your story from a deeper place, and an opportunity to reflect on meaning, beyond everyday identities. Creating and maintaining fulfilling and loving relationships is something we all aspire to, but this is never easy. Some of your fears and anxieties may be related to our very fragile existence as humans on planet earth in these challenging times.

My first session

Our initial contact will be email. If I have space and you agree to go ahead, I will send you a questionnaire to complete and return before we meet. At our first session, we will discuss your answers and begin to establish a working relationship.
