About me and my therapy practice
Hi, I'm Cath and I offer counselling to people aged 18+ in the Reading area,.
We can all struggle sometimes - we may not always want to share our deepest, most painful, private feelings and thoughts with friends and family. It can be hard to make the initial step to talk to someone, I offer a sensitive and warm approach to make that as easy as possible for you.
I have worked with various issues including trauma, relationship breakdown, bereavement, ADHD, low self confidence, low self esteem, low mood, anxiety, negative thinking, depression and stress.
In my working life I have supported young people in care, in a women's refuge and people who were homeless and may have led chaotic lifestyles often experiencing abuse, substance misuse and mental health issues.
I offer warmth, empathy and a safe place for you to express your innermost thoughts and feelings, I won't advise or tell you what to do - together we can explore and find a way forward, exploring together at your pace.
Practice description
I am a BACP registered and fully qualified Integrative Therapeutic Counsellor based in Reading I also work online via zoom and google meet. Sessions can last for up to 50 minutes.
I work from two comfortable and tranquil spaces both in Reading town centre, close to parking and good public transport links. One of these is The Practice Rooms https://thepracticerooms.co.uk/
I can also offer online counselling sessions either via Microsoft Teams, whatsapp or google meet.
I work 'integratively' combining Person-Centred and Psychodynamic therapy and other approaches to suit each person. We are all so different and may benefit from different approaches and ways of exploring at different times. At the centre of this is empathy and non judgement - moving towards a trusting and warm therapeutic relationship.
I am led by you and we will explore what you want to each time we meet, sometimes it can help to look back at what has happened in your past. Our past can often help us to understand our present and patterns that we may feel stuck in, or are repeating that may no longer be positive. By looking at the past, identifying and feeling the feelings in a compassionate space this enables you to move forward more freely.
I offer warmth and acceptance to create a sense of safety and together we build a trusting relationship which can enable you to get back in touch with your feelings .This can often help us to work out what we may want to change or do next - or just to recognise and understand what it is we feel and the patterns in our lives.
My first session
I offer a free 20 minute consultation session either online or over the phone, you can choose. This gives us time to get to know each other a little, you can also ask me any questions about counselling and how it may work. This also helps me to understand a little about what you are feeling, and what you want to look at and and to understand how you want to feel different.
Most importantly this also gives you a chance to see if I am someone you feel comfortable talking to - and decide if you would like to book a session.
We can agree a time and day that suits you to meet for our sessions. I'm flexible to fit around you and we can mix and match face to face and online to suit you.
Please get in touch if you want to talk about what has been happening for you, has been on your mind - or if you just want to find out more or ask any questions.
